Bob Dole's Odyssey Suggestions

So for the first time since 1978, Bob Dole is without a full time job. Feels kind of strange, but Bob Dole has normal blood pressure for the first time in over a decade. Along the way, Bob Dole has been really bad at taking vacations. Really bad. Just got a check for 42 days of accrued vacation bad. (Bastards wouldn't pay for the 403 hours of accrued sick leave.)

No real interest or need to go back to work immediately. Which leads to the question: What now? Despite a long list of productive things Bob Dole should probably do, Bob Dole feels like doing something relaxing, and is looking for suggestions.

Not interested in getting a passport, and there is a lot of the United States that Bob Dole has yet to see. Thinking about going and buying a cheap used car instead of piling miles on the Silverado at 15mpg. Trying to think of a theme, or something unusual. Also thinking it would be fun to document/blog the adventure. Given this place's propensity for the bizarre, Bob Dole figured he'd open up a thread for suggestions.

What ya got?

Thinking it would be better to plan the next town. Would like to cover some territory and not just do 100 mile hops.

So is Bovina next, or maybe Brownfield?

Oh. You've got a bigger range than I was expecting.

It seems like Colorado Springs would be a logical stop along the way.

Amarillo
Boise City, Oklahoma
Colorado Springs
Denver

Hmm, maybe go west to Eagle, Colorado?

One possibility. Finding a "B" while staying close enough for Denver being the "D" is tough.

There is a decent budget after the throwaway car. Have no problem with miles as long as it fits in the format. Have not been to CA for years, never seen Seattle, no Montana, no Yosemite, etc. would be nice to add some of that while doing this.

Bob Dole mentioned blogging about his trip. If you visit an attraction that begins with the same letter as the city it forces you to see something you might not otherwise visit.

Amarillo TX, visit the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame & Museum and post the Brochure along with the write-up about it.

Bartlesville OK, take pictures of Buffalo Art and post them.

Colorado Springs CO, visit the Glen Eyrie Castle and tell us about it.

Yosemite is well worth the visit. Stop by Crater Lake on your way through Oregon, too.

My family took a theme vacation when our youngest just finished the 4th grade. In Missouri, that's the year they learn about the Oregon Trail, so we kind of followed a conflation of the Oregon Trail, the Mormon Trail, and the Pony Express route west from KC to Cheyenne to St. Lake City to Yosemite to San Francisco to Crater Lake to Yellowstone to Mt. Rushmore and then back to KC, stopping along the way to see a bunch of historical sites and natural beauty. It was a great trip.

You're going to run into trouble finding reasonable cities to hit with some of the less common letters so if you're serious about doing the A-Z thing, you might want to plan around letters like X and Z.

I love sea food, American revolutionary and civil war history and always wanted to start up north on the east coast and head south, stopping at ma and pa restaurants along the way and seeing as many historical sites as I could handle.
