Buffet's are disgusting.

Mostly because of the people sneezing over the food etc.

Remember Golden Corral?

Old people, or people on a fixed income care about quantity. Generally speaking what people value on food depends on social class. For example poor people going to dinner at someone's house care first and foremost about how much food is there, will there be leftovers they can take home. Middle class people care mostly about how the food tastes. Upper class people care mostly about the presentation or the meal.

The last good buffet I went to was in Vegas at the Bellagio.

What, do you imagine they do behind the scenes to your food before the waitress hauls it out to you? Or do you not eat out anywhere?

Exactly.

The reason buffets suck is because the food is cafeteria mass-produced crap.

Old Country Buffet is basically 3 rows of TV dinners.

As a minor story, I was in Dayton, Ohio, a few years back and had a hankerin' for Chinese food. There was a restaurant near the hotel, so I went over. It turned out to be the largest buffet outside North Korea.* We're talking acres of stuff. You want sushi? They had sushi. Barbecue? The ribs are over on that wing. Crab legs? Jello? Fried chicken? Tacos? Want a caesar salad? Cobb salad? Waldorf salad? Tuna salad? Chicken salad? If you wanted it, you could find it on that buffet.

When I went in, I was in shock at the size, and some old Chinese woman did the Lassie thing to lead me to a seat. There was no pricing anywhere - not a single sign or label in the place - and I was leery. But it was a huge restaurant and it was packed, so I decided that it must be a good deal. So I set my worries aside and had watermelon and dinner rolls and crab legs and broccoli with cheese and some chocolate cake for dessert. When I got my bill it was something like $15. I guess it was like Wal-Mart where they got price breaks from their suppliers due to their massive volume.

* - I'm assuming that Kim Jong Eun has a massive buffet where he eats every day.
If you were hankering for Chinese food, why did you eat watermelon, dinner rolls, crab legs, broccoli and chocolate cake?

Buffets are terrible.
Rarely I will go to one, and when I do, I start to look around at all the fatties and my appetite will crumble.

Anyone remember the gold buffet in KC?

Used to be really awesome but in its later years, went to shit.

They used to have some big names there IIRC. Rat Pack, etc. The food was good when I went there as a kid.

I always wanted to go there when I was a kid because I saw the commercials.

The commercials always had this kid with a chest full of fake gold coins and I thought they would have that there.

I was disappoint.

Love Chinese buffet, hate white people buffet.

White people buffet is all starchs to fill you up cheaply.

Mac and cheese, 8 other pastas, 7 versions of rice, mashed potatoes, fried potatoes, bread everywhere, even the salisbury steak smothered in a goopy sauce.

Just for the record, as far as I know black people love buffet, too. I used to work in a plaza with an Old County Buffet and Sunday after church there would be a line 100 yards down the block of black people all dressed up in suits and hats and dresses.

Absolute truth.

There's one of those here and if you go in there on Friday night, you get your pick of any of the actual Chinese dishes.

The place is at CAPACITY and every table has a 3-foot mound of broken crab legs.

They don't even touch the Chinese food.
