What is the single biggest reason Chiefs have not won the SB

Just out of curiosity in Chiefsplanet opinion.

QB is the long term answer but if Marty would have been smart and started Gannon we would have won. That team had championship written a over it.

-coaching staffs incapable of motivating players burdened by the underlying psychology of playing in a small market on a team which is never expected to succeed by anyone but their fan base

-failed general management incapable of assembling a balanced and competitive team with solid depth.. coupled with distracted and displaced ownership
(I'd say this is the biggest reason)

-Lack of top-tier leadership in key positions (FO, HC, QB)

I'd say it's a perfect storm of many things including those mentioned above, and consistently poor position coaches/coordinators, lack of a smart QB with above average leadership skills (we had solid production in Montana, Gannon, and Green but they were failed by things beyond their control), KC being a poor destination for free-agents to consider for many reasons including a losing tradition, and poor foresight in selecting draft picks and outcasts from other teams.

Glad all you guys cleared this up.

Now the last 30 years of heart break are erased by a SB win that happened before I was born...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

It was obvious to me he meant "in the modern era" or "in the recent past". But maybe he really didn't know KC has 1 World Championship.

An owner who wants it badly enough will overcome his ego and need to decide who should be coach and GM, and will seek, obtain and then FOLLOW impartial expert advice. Owners that make their own decisions still don't want it as bad as they want to indulge their egos.

"The modern era"?

It makes no sense to exclude the first 4 Super Bowls. They are called SUPER BOWLS. The only thing that changed between Super Bowls 4 and 5 is that the AFL became the AFC and 3 teams switched conferences.

The guy who started this thread is an idiot.

The biggest reason we haven't won the Super Bowl?

I'd say, and this is just a wild guess....

It's the embarrassing string of consecutive playoff game losses?

I think it's safe to say at this point, it's not just that it's not the right time or there isn't the right guy etc. They've just flat out refused to do it.

I think it all falls on Hunt family's shoulders. They're the only constant though out all of this. I don't think that family (or Clark) wants to draft a franchise QB. They don't want to have to pay anyone a $100M contract should that draft pick pan out and become and elite QB in the league. Clark wouldn't want to give that person a 2nd contract.

I truly believe that. They're cheap. It's the same reason why the Chiefs have NEVER landed a top tier FA. If they've signed a name, it's either a bargain deal on a tier 2 or 3 free agent or the player has passed his prime (Surtain, Law).

They continue the disregard the most important position in the game. It's that simple.

Pretty sure that Lamar's deal with the devil included the stipulation that the Chiefs were never to win another Super Bowl after they beat the Vikings. That, and the fact that the Fellowship of Christian Athletes building across the highway is built on an ancient Indian burial ground. The whole city is ****ed now because of it.

Because the Chiefs have been unwilling/unable to build a passing game that can compete in today's NFL.

Last week's game is a perfect microcosm… the Chiefs are down 17-3 in the THIRD QUARTER and it might as well have been 70-3 because the Chiefs have no ability to effectively pass the ball on a consistent basis to comeback.
