Report: Raiders tab Derek Carr as starting quarterback

The Raiders are going with a rookie at quarterback to begin the regular season.

Fox’s Jay Glazer reports the Raiders have switched starters in advance of Sunday’s opener at the Jets, with Derek Carr getting the nod over Matt Schaub.

According to Glazer, players have been informed of the decision.

The call to go with Carr comes after the second-round pick from Fresno State completed 11-of-13 passes for 143 yards and three TDs in the preseason finale vs. Seattle. Schaub sat out the game with elbow soreness.

Schaub, whom the Raiders acquired from Houston in the offseason, was just 24-of-47 passing for 218 yards with no touchdowns and one interception in exhibition play. He was sacked three times.

NFL network just did a re-draft of 2014, Carr went 3 overall. Kid sucks.

No other QB in the top 10.

The Raiders haven't been to the playoffs with a QB of their own drafting since Marc Wilson, in the '85 season. Since then, they've been to the playoffs 6 times, all with the famous 'retreads' at QB.

The Raiders have won 3 Super Bowls. None of those wins came at the hands of a Raiders 1st round QB pick. Stabler was a 2nd round pick of the Raiders, and Plunkett (2 SB wins) was yet another 'retread'.

I'd take Bortles over Carr right now though. I know he's struggled but at least they've beaten the 6-3 Browns.

Yeah, with Bortles throwing 3 INTs in that game. He had a shit game, they won in spite of him.

When it takes a guy 40 attempts to get to 200 yards while down 2 touchdowns, people tend to turn the game off.

Bortles had 159 yards and 3 INTs in that game. That's a shit performance and literally trying to give the game away.

Just look at their stats compared to each other, almost the complete opposite TD to INT ratio, Carr is in a much worse situation.

Carr: 11 TDs, 7 INTs

Bortles: 8 TDs, 13 INTs

Carr has a UDFA in Holmes (got cut by the Patriots) to throw to, a former 7th round pick in Butler, and a slow and worn out James Jones as his #1 WR.

Bortles at least has two highly drafted weapons that were brought in with him in Robinson and Lee. He has Cecil Shorts, one of the better slot receivers in the league, and then there is Allen Hurns, a UDFA who was also playing very well with Chad Henne throwing the ball.

And yet Carr has thrown more TDs, half as many INTs.

Bortles actually has a run game to work with, his best back is averaging 5 YPC while their run game overall is going for 4.4 YPC; Carr's run game is going for 3.5 yards a pop, his best back (McFadden) is averaging 3.7 YPC, good for 28th in the league.

And somehow Bortles is better. Only on CP.

And? I get the fact that you guys thinks he sucks because he plays for the Raiders, a hated rival. But you just look even more stupid when you look around and realize that the only people who think that Derek Carr is terrible are here on CP.

Even Jags fans admit that Carr is a good rookie QB and they're the ones who actually have a horse in the race.

Carr had a big game against San Diego and a good game in his first outing, against the Jets. Beyond that, he's been pretty lousy, but he hasn't gone anything near full Geno. The question boils down to how much of that you think is on him, versus how much of it you think is on his teammates.
