It's the same thing for Derrick Johnson. If you want to keep the player, you restructure or extend. Basically, again - these are the contracts that allow the chiefs a lot of wiggle room on the cap. |

cutting after june 15th doesn't eliminate money
it just saves it against the cap THIS year. It means the cut cost more next year.

We should extend Sean Smith and convert his salary to signing bonus if you want to play with his contract.

I think Smith's contract is actually pretty cheap for what he gives us. I like Sean Smith, especially given how stupid he made Clay's hatred look. ![]() |

You still have to accelerate his signing bonus. And if you do a June 1 cut, I believe the amount is distributed such that you take this year's signing bonus as a cap hit and accelerate the remainder in the second year cap figure.

Per the NFL Network’s Jeff Darlington, the Kansas City Chiefs will release tight end Anthony Fasano today. Parting ways with the vet is projected to clear $1,959,375 in cap space. However, if it’s designated as a post-June 1 release, that number will then jump to $3,084,375. Fasano’s first season with the Chiefs (2013) was riddled with injuries. In the subsequent year, his efficiency nosedived, as Pro Football Focus (PFF) ranked him No. 61 of 67 (qualifying) tight ends last season. Severing ties with No. 80 also opens the door for Kansas City plucking a tight end in the draft (or free agency). Though PFF ranked Kelce No. 4 overall at the position last year, his past is also checkered with injuries. Furthermore, reserves Demetrius Harris and Richard Gordon still remain projects. Throughout his two-year stint with the Chiefs, Fasano caught 48 receptions for 426 yards and seven touchdowns. |

Does make you wonder what the Chiefs are going to do at the TE position, though...
The Chiefs love multiple TE sets, and we now have 1 proven TE with a somewhat promising idea of one in Harris. This is a horrid TE draft, too. |

I, for one, shall sorely miss seeing Fasano's blazing speed.

Wipe the cokestache from under McGrath's nose, get a fake urine sample, and we're good to go.
