Lockett vs. Cooks

I'd be thrilled if we get Lockett in the 2nd, but I see many mocks that have Lockett dropping into the 3rd round. Meanwhile, last year in an equally deep draft, Brandin Cooks went 20th. Their measurables are awfully similar, and they were both very productive in college. If you read the analysis on Cooks, it looks nearly the same as Lockett's this year.

Cooks went to a great situation, but he was on his way to a very good rookie year before getting hurt.

Lockett - 5'10, 182, 4.4 in the 40
Cooks - 5'10, 189, 4.33 in the 40

Lockett would be a great get in the 2nd IMO, and not just because of location bias. If we get him the 3rd, it would be stealing. I think NFL teams know how good he is and he'll go in the 2nd.

Cooks played the game a lot faster, was silky smooth with outstanding hands. When i watched Cooks' highlights, i saw a player who looked like a finished product.

Lockett doesn't look nearly as pro imo. He looks like a college player with upside.

He's a terrific receiver, but the difference between 4.4 and 4.33 is pretty significant. Cooks wouldn't have gone as high if he was a 4.4 guy.

4.4 is pretty damn fast. 4.4 is actually like the ruler for "fast", if you run 4.4 or better you're considered to be an elite straight line speed guy. The difference is wether you play fast, or just run the 40 fast. It's a whole different story when you're running a precise route and catching a football thrown at your face. So to summarize, I'm not sure the difference between 4.3 and 4.4 is as significant as your ability to perform at that speed.
