The next kid can choose to play in the SEC knowing that he will get every benefit if the doubt on draft day or play in a lesser league where all-pro talent barely gets you a camp invite because you're playing against a bunch of players who couldn't get into a real conference.

Chris Harris will make more money than probably 95% of the SEC players drafted into the NFL all time. That's what I don't understand about these MU fans. The draft gets you a nice head start but real players rise to the top and cash in on that second contract. Does Kansas' performance on the field the last few years hurt their players draft stock? Probably, but in the end once you get past the top of the top it's all up to the player. That's where CHJr has thrived. Kansas has another 10 players this year that will attempt to achieve the same. Should be fun watching them. |

Yep...the only one in the past 20 years. 600+ picks in the first round during that time were made, and Talib is the only Jayhawk.
The Big 12 lags WAY BEHIND The SEC and the rest of the major conferences in terms of players picked and first round picks. There are only two possible factors. 1. There is significantly less talent in the Big 12 2. NFL teams discount production of players in the Big 12 in favor of players from other conferences. I'm saying it's a combination of both that creates a self-sustaining cycle. The Big 12 has inferior talent. Their reputation has caused their actual talented players to go unrecognized. This leads to talented players looking to play elsewhere...which reinforces the reputation, and the cycle perpetuates itself.

There is a huge talent gap between the Big Whatever and the SEC. Anyone can see that the Big is just an inferior league.

On the other hand, he could play at a doormat school in a middling conference, in a program that has a revolving door at head coach and where he isn't going to have any of the advantages that a major football program would provide in terms of the talent around him on the field and on the sideline. Unless you have eligibility problems or you don't think you can win enough playing time at a bigtime school, and you think you can start at Kansas, there's no advantage to be had at all. How could someone advise their son or daughter to make that decision? |

I think at this time we can still call the Big 12 a major conference, but since they have been reduced to 10 teams by realignment and can't get a team into the playoffs over another conference when there is any question, maybe it would be more appropriate to call them a junior member of the so-called "Power 5"
