I don't really understand why Bowie is limited to Ziggy Stardust here. Bowie's glam-rock period consisted of everything from The Man Who Sold the World in 1970 to Diamond Dogs in 1974. Are you arguing that this isn't glam?

LOL at posters who think Bowie sucks. He may not be everyone's cup of tea but the dude is one of the most iconic figures in popular music history. He's single-handedly influenced more artists in varying genres than just about anyone.

He launched his career with a run of 10 studio albums stretching from Space Oddity through Heroes that is as amazing as it is diverse. Few acts can match that run of great albums. And his output in the 21st century has been pretty impressive, musically speaking.

T. Rex is also a great band. Not in Bowie's league but definitely crucial to the history of Rock and Roll. He was one of the pioneers of glam rock. In fact, Ziggy was influenced somewhat by his sound. Listen to Soul Love on Ziggy & the Spiders and you will definitely hear the influence. Electric Warrior is one of the great rock albums of all time. The Slider ain't too shabby, either.

Diamond Dogs is an incredible album.

One person's opinion doesn't trump all.

Personally, I thought that KISS had some great songs, especially in the 70's. KISS Alive I was a really, really great record. But that said, their "look" had zero impact on me and today, everyone's photos weren't posted on the internet 24/7.

Bowie's impact can't be quantified. Sure, he influenced people with his airbrushed makeup, hairstyle and characterization. But none of that would matter if his music wasn't absolutely amazing, which is why his publishing catalog is worth more than $1 BILLION dollars.

I never "got" T-Rex. That doesn't mean they didn't connect with others but it didn't connect with me. I liked the Raspberries infinity better than than T-Rex but that's just much ado about nothing because other people couldn't care less about them.

In the end, it's all about a personal connection.

What others feel is irrelevant.

Elton John "Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters"

I think Elton John is only arguably glam rock, but he was flamboyant and theatrical enough.

When I was a child, I became obsesses with KISS because of a bonus level on a Tony Hawk video game. This was in second grade, I believe. Never had the chance to see them until 8th grade. This was 6 years ago or so. My interest in them obviously faded as I started to realize, "wow, these guys aren't that good at making music." But I had always wanted to see them (or half of them at this point) live.
Now they come near Chicago all the time and my dad gets tickets about every time. I think it's a sort of joke because my dad hates KISS

. My interest in them has definitely faded, but they'll always be a large memory of my childhood. I was obsessed with them. But, if anything, the pyrotechnics at KISS concerts are really cool.

The first band I ever liked was Blues Image. I heard "Ride Captain Ride" when I was not quite three years old and loved it. I was born in the Summer of '67, the youngest of five children, and my parents had a huge collection of albums from many genres. I didn't listen to the radio very much at all in the 70's. I do recall hearing songs from these acts on your list and they were mostly forgettable to me.

Pretty good post. I'd add Young Americans as Bowie's best recording and one of the best of the seventies.
