Justin Houston Contract Rumor...

Yeah, yeah.. Bleacher report.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2...ey-from-chiefs

Says Justin Houston wants a JJ Watt type contract from the Chiefs. Watt signed a six year 100 million deal with Houston.

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/houston-texans/j.j.-watt/

Those numbers actually seem fairly reasonable, assuming Houston keeps at his trade. Probably ends up being a little bit less guaranteed, but I could certainly live with that salary cap hit year-by-year.

Boy, it's been a long time since I've read a good ol' fashioned CP thread actually having something to do with the Chiefs. Too long, in fact. This thread has everything: contract predictions, done deals reported from mysterious sources, idiocy on a Blackbob level, physical internet threats, references to Luke Joeckel, Alex Smith pressers from 3 years ago, Peyton Manning plane-spotting.

It's almost like football season.

Keep it up fellas!

Yeah, I think he's the reason it exists, but Simply Red and others posted it at random times to make it funny.

I don't think he realizes, outside of a few positions, the defense is pretty well built. The goal now should be to maintain and try to add solid depth, improve where we can(ILB).

I agree. The lack of football discussion has had me contemplating a CP mini vacation.

This place is terrible at football discussions regardless of time of year.

I understand you dumb ****. Everything I have talked about pertains to the future and how his potential contract would effect us.

We aren't signing the guy to more than $14-15 million a year. I am sorry you guys don't understand. Last year it was Alex Smith. Most thought he wouldn't get a contract for some dumb reason. This is the opposite of that. Houston is clearly getting tagged. Chiefs fans are ****ing idiots. Wake the **** up and pay attention. Get a clue.

Tamba Hali was signed for almost that much, and Houston is a "generational" type player.

And the salary cap continues to go up...

No dude, Tamba got $12 million a year. Clay Mathews contract is $13.2 million. He is the highest paid OLB. Tamba's five years $60 million vs. Houston's hypothetical six years $97 million is a big difference. It is a big difference. $14-15 million would make him the highest paid OLB by a lot. If he really wants $16 million a year I think they'll say adios. That's Watt and Suh territory. That's d-line pay and not LB pay. Offering $14-15 million is very generous.

No point in arguing. From now on I will just keep my opinions in a black and white format until I figure out how people roll here. I should have just said Houston will not get a contract for a number of reasons. People must not like to hear reality until after the fact.

Look at the total cap hit on each year.. that is really the only thing that is important.

Clay Matthews:

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/green-bay...clay-matthews/

2014 - 11 M
2015 - 12.7 M
2016 - 13.75 M
2017 - 15.2 M
2018 - 11.4 M

Tamba Hali:

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/kansas-ci...fs/tamba-hali/

2012 - 14.5 M
2013 - 15.5 M
2014 - 11.5 M
(2015 - 5 M.. with 4 M due over next four years in theory, really 9M )

JJ Watt:

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/houston-texans/j.j.-watt/

2015 - 14 M
2016 - 14.5 M
2017 - 14.5 M
2018 - 15 M
2019 - 15 M
2020 - 15.5 M
2012 - 17.5 M

A couple points..

1) JJ Watt's contract isn't THAT outlandish, since it was for six years. And the total dollar amount is a bit fictional. I think it includes possible bonuses to be earned or something.

2) Tamba Hali's cap hit over the last couple was quite high and didn't cripple us. Right on level with some of JJ Watt's contract actually.

3) Salary cap looks to continue to rise 6-8% annually.

This was the point of this thread, honestly. Seeing 100M contract is awe-inspiring, but the numbers show it isn't that bad actually.
