Chargers have real shot to win it all, finally

Looks like the SDSPM is at it again. WOW!

http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/...hampions-acee/

It is possible the Chargers saved the best for last.

Come the first Sunday in February, we might not know whether to raise a toast or cry in our beer. Maybe we’ll do both.

It’s not preposterous to believe we could get the opportunity to find out.

We’re three days into training camp, so this isn’t a prediction.

What it is, is the best perspective that can be gleaned at this point. It’s a spectrum of possibility. It is legitimate hope, and it is prudent realism.

The Chargers, in what may well be their final season in San Diego, can be a good team. A playoff team. A Super Bowl team.

We’re not saying they are a good team because, well, we know better. Fool us once, shame on you. Fool us a few dozen times, shame on us.

We’ve seen promise unravel, at various times, in a steaming pile of historically bad special teams, seemingly infectious injuries, ridiculous penalties, overconfidence and Marlon McCree.

But, really, this Chargers team has the potential to be what no Chargers team has ever been before

No, that's not what I said. Go back and re-read my post again. Read it very slowly. Maybe have someone read it with you. You know, to help you understand.

My point is that SD has a franchise QB AND a good defense whereas KC only has a good defense and an average QB.

Yeah, I have disdain for the Chargers, but the sad truth is my fanship would have been better if I had become a Chargers fan.

And their franchise QB and 'good' defense netted them a 9-7 finish, same as KC's, while being swept by KC and allowing 348 points on the year, while KC's defense only allowed 281.

The point? KC is a better team than San Diego. They were last year and they will be again this year.

The real question is whether Kansas City can pass Denver and how far Denver will fall off, or IF (which most experts pick some regression) they fall off this year?

Make no mistake about it. This division will come down to Kansas City and Denver (barring major injuries) in the end.

I like Phillip Rivers. Liking the quarterback puts me ahead of most of the Chiefs teams of the past decade.

If there was ever a team that could go undefeated and win a Super Bowl without anyone noticing, it would have to be the Chargers. I'd imagine even the ’72 Dolphins would still go on popping champagne bottles annually in blissful ignorance.

I've been to a game in San Diego. It's like watching the Chiefs win with my grandma in her KC nursing home. Some know what's happening, some don't...some clap at random, and most are too high on medication to remember to tell someone they have to use the restroom.

Jeez. I didn't know you liked Rivers. With your hatred towards Seau, I assumed you'd feel the same about Rivers or all Chargers for that matter.

So, jumping around and over celebrating is bad but being a good QB who occasionally wears his heart on his sleeve, (or as many opposing fans would call being a "crybaby bitch"), is okay. Gotcha.

Exactly.

The difference is that Seau wanted to be the center of attention, but with Rivers, I think he's just a goofy guy who loves football. I'm a goofy guy who loves football, so the only difference between us is that I have no zip on an out pattern. And Rivers won major points in my book by being a man in the draft when Eli Manning was doing his Elway tantrum.

Rivers is okay in my book.
