2009 was their last double digit win season, and was their 5th trip to the playoff in 6 seasons. The Chargers were 46-18 in Phillip's first 4 seasons, back when they were taunting Cutler, etc and the big men in the division. Supposedly... In the 5 1/2 seasons since, they are 44-45 overall... 1 failed trip to the playoffs as a WC in 2013. Rivers puts up nice stats but few wins. Rivers is a 12 year guy with a decent career, but will forever be in the shadow of Eli and Big Ben... and unless something radically changes, he'll never be in the discussion for HOF, nor should he be at this point. Too bad really, the guy is a gamer...

I'd say I'm being reasonable. For the past few seasons now the injuries to that team have been so incredibly ridiculous that it's hard to fault anyone but the conditioning coaches. They're routinely down to their 3rd and 4th stringers on multiple positions along the offensive line. Their ground game is consistently one of the worst in the league. Their defense, at best, is just below average. And yet they're still a dangerous team with Rivers at QB. You can't deny that he is very good. Meanwhile, Alex had a top 3 scoring defense, top 3 running back, top 15 #1 WR and top 5 TE, we miss the playoffs and you're arguing that he needed more. Well, maybe if we stack the team with All-Pros at every single position then we'll be able to win some games of importance with Smith at QB! |
