Talib: Facemask was intentional
http://nesn.com/2016/02/aqib-talib-c...-foul-was-b-s/
Aqib Talib Committed Facemask ‘On Purpose’; First Personal Foul ‘Was B.S.’ by Doug Kyed SANTA CLARA, Calif. — There was no one more ecstatic in the post-Super Bowl 50 press conference room than the always entertaining and sometimes volatile Aqib Talib. The Broncos cornerback marched up to his podium with his three children and let out an enthused, “Yoooooo” after Denver beat the Carolina Panthers 24-10 for his first championship ring. The night didn’t start out too positively for Talib, who was charged with two personal fouls in the first 20 minutes of action. “It was all good,” Talib assured. “It was B.S. flags. One was on our sidelines — the guy was talking on our sideline. One I just did on purpose, and I just had to show him. It’s probably going to be a fine, but hey, we’re world champs.” Talib’s first personal foul came when he was called for taunting after pushing Panthers wideout Corey Brown out of bounds following a Broncos sack. “We were just talking, and it was getting a little chippy, so the ref picked me to slow the game down,” Talib said. “We didn’t do anything. We were just talking noise to each other, me and (Brown), a regular conversation.” The second was thrown when he yanked Brown out of bounds by the receiver’s facemask to prevent a touchdown. Talib downplayed the impact of the foul. “My teammates knew what it was,” Talib said. “He was on the 3-yard line. (With) a personal foul, he was on the 1 1/2-yard line, so it is what it is.” The Panthers scored their only touchdown on the ensuing play, when running back Jonathan Stewart leaped over the line for the score. “That was the most fun game I’ve played in by far,” Talib said. “I had about four or five catches on me, and I still think that was the most fun I’ve had in a game in my life.” By the looks and sounds of it, Talib also had plenty of fun after the game, too. |

The refs need to let the players do some policing, too. If I was a Zebra, I would have told Brown that he gets one free roll on Talib.

Ha. Now that I think about it, here's something that would be funny. Let's borrow a little more from hockey. If there's a personal foul or unsportsmanlike, you get the yardage and you get one play shorthanded as the offender comes off the field and can't be replaced. My only worry about these rules would be the fact that no one can touch the quarterback now, and if you stiffen the penalties Tom Brady wouldn't even bother wearing pads. He draws penalties by being touched.

Maybe they shouldn't get ejected but for plays like that maybe make the player have to sit out 10 plays on their side of the ball.

With the spotlight on concussions and player safety...being ejected from the game and forfeiting your game check would put an end to it.
Basically, they know and let lineman hold, they know and let WR and DB's interfere with each other, therefore giving them the freedom to pick and choose when flags get thrown. Ultimately, the game and the outcome is compromised. |

I don't understand why the NFL doesn't review ejections during the game. For a serious foul that may warrant an ejection, the player gets "suspended" until the next full commercial break. During the commercial break, the refs can review the video and discuss it and: allow the player to return immediately; give a 15 minute suspension starting from when the foul occurred, or eject for the game. This way it doesn't slow the game down but the refs don't have to make an on-the-spot decision to do nothing (outside of the usual 15 yards) or eject for the entire game.
For the play in question it wouldn't help, but when the offensive is backed up on say the 2 yard line and they get a "15 yard" foul after an incompletion, it only backs them up one yard. Why don't they extend the first down maker so instead of being second and 11 from the 1, it is second and 25 from the one? I don't get why if the offense gets a first down and a 15 yard penalty is flagged after the play, the offense is backed up but it is still 1 and ten and not 1 and 25.
