NFL's Best OLB: Houston vs. Miller

Got into a debate with a Donkey fan regarding this topic earlier this week, but I love it. I think it's one that can be argued both ways, but personally I take a healthy Houston every day over a healthy Miller. Place your vote and make your own case below.

Things to keep in mind:

Justin Houston career numbers:
- 64 starts
-56 sacks (2011: 5.5 in 10 starts, 2012: 10.0 in 16 starts, 2013: 11.0 in 11 starts, 2014: 22.0 in 16 starts, 2015: 7.5 in 10 games)
- 3 interceptions
- 25 passes defensed
- 8 forced fumbles/ 5 recoveries
- 1 touchdown (INT), 1 safety
- Hasn't been flagged for anything since the 2013 season


Von Miller career numbers:
- 72 starts
- 60 sacks (2011: 11.5 in 15 starts, 2012: 18.5 in 16 starts, 2013: 5.0 in 9 starts, 2014: 14.0 in 16 starts, 2015: 11.0 in 16 starts)
- 1 interception
- 10 passes defensed
- 17 forced fumbles/ 5 recoveries
- 1 touchdown (INT), 1 touchdown (fumble recovery), 0 safeties
- Consistently penalized, often for personal fouls

For me, considering the numbers..... I still take Houston. Statistically, I can argue he's been better in every phase of the game except for forcing fumbles. Miller does have the playoff success to attribute in his argument, but Houston of course didn't hardly play in this year's playoffs. Regardless, this a fun topic no matter the time of year. So, who do you take?

Was watching Chiefs Replay tonight, the Denver game version... It showed the Peters' INT on that long post that was under thrown. Houston was largely responsible for many of their bad plays that day including the Peters INT. Forced Manning to sprint out and chuck it essentially on the run. Who am I kidding, he was wrecking their OL that whole day just going off those plays they showed. They even stated he had a total of 5 hurries in the first half. Plays like that are the ones that aren't in the stat sheet that make a big difference.

Von seems to motivate others to play at their highest levels better than Houston. I still like Houston and I pray he has an injury-free next year, but either Houston, Hali, or DJ need to become an even larger visible and emotional leader play-in and play-out.

So **** Von because he's a Donk, but he is holding a trophy this city's team hasn't won since 1969.

It's time to stop having these point debates that are fun but ultimately meaningless, and replace it with having a team that doesn't find a way to not ****-up a SB appearance/victory (from drafts, to fumbles, to clock management, to *.*), and to decide if it was 500,000 or 900,000 at the championship parade.

This was created for a few reasons.

First, respect. because the Donk D is respected by the leagues officials, they weren't flagged. Perhaps it's spilt milk, but I'm sure that second chuck would get called.

Second, you have to have a D-line that can get pressure fast enough to have an off-balance Gronk, because two people bumped him, be a non-option. I don't think that's an option for us because the 3-second pressure they got on that play (the pocket closing-in on TB) is something I'm not sure we have right now. At least not without bringing the house. And if we bring the house there's no second bump, TB hits Gronk on the out route and he goes for 20+.

Last I heard, 22 sacks is pretty good.

Houston has been productive.

He hasn't really had the opportunity to play on a team with an explosive offense we that puts the other team in constant passing situations like von has, but von has also been good against the run.

I'd say it's pretty close.

Our offense was better than Denver's this year and Von Miller did just fine playing on a team without an explosive offense.

Coming into the 2015 season Von rushed about 80 more times than Houston did.

So yeah, over their career Von has gotten 1 or 2 more rushes per game than Houston has.

Two different type of players. Houston is a massive bull rusher and Miller is DT incarnated when he is not doing weed on a regular basis.

But again, that's not true totally. Houston beats a lot of RTs with the speed rush too. Just like Von has probably used some other moves himself outside of the speed rush. They have to be versatile to be that good.
