John Dorsey pre-draft press conference

Tidbits so far:

-180 players exactly on his draft board
-Clark's statement about the tampering appeal will say it all (he sounded pissed off when he said it).

There's not a chance in the world that they guessed a guy would be there 60 picks later AND put up 720 yards and 4 TD's his rookie season.

They got lucky, plain and simple.

This draft class is not 2013. It's not "mediocre".

No one values running backs anymore. Sure, Gurley went Top 10 last year but Melvin Gordon sucked ass. David Johnson went in the third and kicked ass for Arizona.

As for WR's, that's just not true. There are a handful of guys that can start immediately and as always, there will be a few sleepers.

The best aspect of this draft is on the defensive side of the ball, in secondary and DT/DE's.

But that doesn't mean that top end talent doesn't exist and it doesn't mean that teams won't find some significant contributors on Day Three.

Who says they have their hopes all pinned on one "guy"? They might feel there are several players of more or less equal value that will be available in the second round. If two of them turn out to be there and two not but they pick up another selection, that adds draft value.

That is rarely the case. The best talent is found in the first round, period.

There's 50% bust rate in every draft. The smart teams minimize that risk by taking the most talented players, not by trading back in hopes of getting lucky.

At this point in time, the Chiefs need more top end talent. They have a lot of depth across the board. Moving back for a cornerback or DT or guard or safety that isn't ready to start in 2016 is a bad idea.

Running backs are a dime a dozen. We did fine with a sixth rounder and a UDFA last year.

I'm not advocating it, it's not knowable who will be there at this point. My comments were just to point out that nothing Dorsey said indicates he wouldn't trade down, as others were suggesting he had implied.

This is actually a pretty strong draft class through the middle.

The WR class is really, really nice IMO. Some believe you can get interior DL in the 3rd and 4th round this year that would normally be at the end of the 1st round. Corner also seems pretty well set up.

The edge rushers and interior OL seem to be the weakness of the class.

No WRs worth a shit?

Do you think that because there isn't a Calvin Johnson or A.J. Green?

Could you not say the same for trading up? Nobody thought Peters would do what he did last season. Not that we traded up for him. Just aan example.
Really is a crapshoot.

I'd only trade down if there were too many guys on my draft board.

When your draft board is dwindling away, the answer isn't to sit on your hands, wait till it gets to nothing and hope someone behind you wants your pick. The answer is to aggressively move up and make damn sure you guy the guy still standing on your draft board.

If ever a year to trade up, this is it. We have a couple of teams right ahead of us that may go with a corner (CIN, PIT), and it sounded today like CB is definitely a good possibility for next Thursday.

We're set to have 10 picks once the comp picks kick in next year. Trade a couple of them away and get the best player you can this year, we don't need 10 draft choices with such a small FA class next offseason.
