We don't know what his ceiling is strength wise. Only the strength coach knows. Is he a weight training monster already and has reached his ceiling or has he just "piddled with weights" relying on just his natural strength ? Based on what I saw I think he has just relied on his natural strength based on his "rag doll" performance last night. And if that's the case it will be very easy to increase his strength by a large margin in a short amount of time.

While strength is important, you surely understand that brute strength does not usually translate to football strength, right?

Was any of that part of your "course work" or are you talking directly to God again?

You were watching a very different game than me. He can't do much else but rush the passer. He's a complete non-factor in run support and pass coverage. And when you can't even show flashes in that one thing you're good at, that's an "uh oh" moment.

Like some of you said, we had several rookies taking No.1 snaps and they saw first hand just how athletically fast and hard hitting the NFL is at the starting level. His strength training will take awhile so hopefully by playoff time his strength has improved by at least 35-40% and his psyche is more "piss and vinegar". Again, wait and see.

Foles needs even more "wait and see" than anyone else IMHO. The guy has only been with us for a little of over 2 weeks with less reps than Alex to get a chemistry going with any of our WRs let alone what he has in our o-line and how to adjust to that ongoing work in progress. And there are more wrinkles to the offense since his Andy days. I assure you Foles will not be a typical backup QB in practice and will get more reps than your typical b/u QB IMHO.

IMHO 'holding on to the ball too long" and "missing high" at times are due more to getting used to his surroundings and what he is working with personnel wise(a la chemistry) than it is Foles hitting his ceiling. Again, wait and see.


One last thing I am definitely sure of is this, that Foles is faaaaaaar more comfortable standing in the pocket than Smith will ever be and why some of you said he held onto the ball too long. We are so used to Smith taking off immediately when his primary is covered that when we have a QB that actually likes to go through all of his progressions allowing other WRs to get open it seems foreign to us. Smith iHMO had PTSD return to him last night after his first successful drive because during that first successful drive he saw just how good LA's d-line was and how bad they made LDT and Ehringer look. And Smith for the rest of his time had that "Oh manure" mentality and it definitely showed in his play for his remaining series that he played.

With that being said, if our o-line does not progress to pristine performance for Alex he will have "happy feet" all year thus severely limiting our ball skill players from making plays relying on his legs racking up 65 to 85 yds rushing(how long before he gets hurt?). And this is not good with our defense being in severe "flux" right now because we will not be scoring near as much and will lose more games if our defense does not fully come together. Because Andy knows that Foles is more comfortable in the pocket and has a much deeper arm for Conley,Streater and Hill, he will have a decision to make. So my question at this point is will we have another similar Grbac vs Gannon situation on our hands by mid-season and how soon will there be a thread "at this point of the season, Smith or Foles"?.

Not trying to here either. I am dead serious IF our o-line, and overall defense do not improve IMHO Foles will be the better QB in the long run.

I really disagree with you on Alex Smith. He had a bad second series, but the OL gave him really bad shit to work with. He was outstanding the rest of the night. And yes, I am often a critic of Alex. He is definitely going through his progressions. He's just going through them a million times faster than he did his first season with KC. He looks to be making much better reads pre-snap and looking off receivers very quickly. That's tremendous progress.

Nah we were watching the game. Your evaluation of it just sucks. Ford didn't necessarily have a good game, but it's wasn't bad either. He was much more physical and did a solid job setting the edge. Baby steps.

As for his pass rush, he's playing on the strong side and hasn't has many opportunities to pin his ears back at all. A lot of quick passes, and him dropping back into coverage. It's been difficult to evaluate him as a pass rusher so far.

Well, we will agree to disagree what is in bold. I agree with you Alex has progressed a great deal. I hope he succeeds even further as we all do. But my gut saw a huge red flag that said he was making his progressions too quickly if he was completing any of them at all from the 2nd series on and why I said (13/14 PTSD) reared it's ugly head last night. I hope not and I really mean that. Will Parker and LDT improve ? Will Fisher regress now that he got his big $$ ? No one really knows at this point and why I say wait and see. But if the o-line doesn't improve their pass blocking and the defense continues it's ways then........

I'm watching this game again and it's great to see the offense looking so much better. The OL gave up a few losses as expected, but they kicked ass and gave Alex plenty of time on quite a few plays (see Maclin TD).

Ehinger may not be the strongest, but he's a damn good technician, and that has saved us plenty last night. We did not have someone at G in the last 2 years who could read blitzes and twists. Ehinger did that last night and this was a great example of it:

Even though Ehinger got beat a few times, he used his body to wall off the defender from the inside lane and that gave Alex at least 1 extra second to throw. Ehinger could be a damn good G in the future when he adds muscle due to his elite technical understanding of the game.

Honestly the OL as a whole looks like a top 10 unit. They matched the Seahawks and Rams pound for pound for the most part. There were a few times where we just flat out owned the Rams DL. That's fantastic.

Another thing has to be the trust in Conley. First of all, Albert Wilson continues to show why he has no business being a starting player. He (again) looked awful last night.

Here's a great example of Conley beating Trumaine Johnson with his route running. You can really tell that Maclin has helped him.

Even more so, Conley said a few months ago that he's gained Alex's trust. Last year Alex told him his route after he told the play to the offense in the huddle because he didn't have that trust. Looks like Alex has far more trust in Conley this season.
This picture pretty much proves that the trust is there.



Bottomline is the OL and 2nd receiver look to be significantly improved and it's going to make a real difference. RT and #2 WR were huge weaknesses last year and now they could be strengths.

The Chiefs finally have balance on offense. They have a RB (mother****ing Ware!) who you have to account for in the backfield. They have Kelce who teams have to account for in the middle of the field. They have Maclin on the outside who has to be accounted for.
Now they have a WR who can take advantage of single coverage.

The best part of all this? The Chiefs are getting Jamaal back and can line him up everywhere.
It's also no fluke that Hill isn't playing anything more than basic shit. I saw them in camp running all kinds of plays with him lined up at RB, slot WR and outisde WR. We're going to have an offense that has a surplus of reliable weapons that our QB trusts, and he'll have time to scan the field to find them.

Can't ****ing wait.

I agree with you and zilla that there is a lot of auditioning go on. The question becomes are we doing this because we need to make a serious trade for better LBs and Corners or do we have the luxury to do this because our depth is that good and can afford to thus getting extra draft picks for the future ?

It made perfect sense why Ware and Reaves got the work. Charles just came off PUP and West still gimpy.
