Who stood out in tonight's game?

I wasn't able to watch it, but I heard about Maclin. About time we have a player that won't take any shit. How did Tyreek do? Who else stood out? Thanks.

You think the loss of Sean Smith will have more of an impact than the improvement of the offense?

DJ White has been really really good so far. He's outshined Nelson for sure.

It's like he reads the play better than a lot of rookies minus the 1 play where he lost coverage. Good athleticism in coverage too.

That's certainly possible - in fact likely. Regardless, his latest knee injury played a big role in him not being the player he once was. it's still hampering his performance - juiced or not.

I'll have to take your word for it, because I haven't heard much from him in the games. No pics, no pass breakups, but also nothing about him getting burned. People were asking if he was even playing during the game thread.

A marginally good sign from a young DB, I'd say.

I was able to re-watch every series last night (in peace and quiet) in which Alex Smith was the starter. If the Chiefs are going to contend for a Super Bowl this year, the first and second year players will need to grow up quickly.

Ehinger's play was disappointing. Other than Fisher's missed block, every ounce of pressure from Rams defense on Alex Smith was due to Ehinger missing his block. And while he won't face a talent like Aaron Donald every week (or even during the season), his play was troubling. Fortunately, Smith was able to lead the Chiefs on three scoring drives.

I don't know what others are seeing but the young secondary players in Murray, Nelson and White were extremely disappointing. No containment on running plays, too much cushion on pass plays, poor angles and general unawareness. It seemed like every time there was a missed assignment, it was #21 and #24. It was almost like clockwork. And at this point in time, Steve Nelson is a Camp Myth. His performances have not mirrored any of the reports filed by Paylor and the rest.

And IMO, had Ron Parker not committed the pass interference penalty, the receiver would have had an easy 6, so I can't blame him for that play.

Finding a left guard has really alluded Dorsey during his tenure in KC. If the return of Hali, Gaines and Berry don't bolster the defense as expected, someone will need to step up and solidify the position because otherwise, it appears that the Chiefs will end up in a lot of shootouts.

The Bears embarrassed the Chiefs last year at Arrowhead. I'm looking forward to seeing how the defense and Ehinger respond.

One more thing: Demetrius Harris was a BEAST on special teams.

I still think Fulton presents a better option this year. I said after Gm 1 that Ehinger just didn't look to have the functional strength he needed to excel on the interior yet and it was even more exposed this week.

No, he won't play Aaron Donald every week but he'll also have to play 4 quarters and any strength gap is only going to get wider as the game goes longer. Moreover, he's not going to get to rotate in/out like the DL he'll be facing. Finally, he's gotten beat badly enough by strength the last 2 weeks that I'm confident that any DT with above average power will give him fits and over 4 quarters of football, that can blow up a lot of drives.

Fulton needs to be the starter this year, IMO.

And while I don't agree with you on Parker's play being necessary (that ball was horribly underthrown and Parker had position; just turn your head, dumbass), I am with you on the Murray, Nelson and White thing. What were people seeing there? Especially this fawning praise of DJ White. Huh? I really thought Murray and White were routinely among the worst players on the field and Nelson wasn't a lot better.

The defense, as a whole, was ****ing terrible. It was hard for me to find any true bright spots at all.

Murray looked like a corner transitioning to safety, so about what you'd expect.

I didn't notice Nelson one way or the other so I'll ha e to go back and check that out.

Regarding Ehringer, yeah, strength wise he's not there yet. Im a big fan of continuity up there and the sum being better than the parts so I'd go the other way and stick with him and let the whole thing grow together.

Some of us have been chastised all offseason for having concerns about the defense, specifically the secondary but we've seen the issues there. Hopefully gaines gets his legs under him sooner than later.

Does anybody remember Phillip Gaines rookie season? The player we saw in TC/preseason was completely different than the one that eventually had to come in and play mid season. It was like night and day.

Murray and White won't see the field early on barring injury, so I'm confident that the experience they've gained along with the time to sit back and learn once the season beings will ensure that they're much more prepared and ready if they need to play come the middle of the season.

Yeah, that's kind of what I was alluding withput going into more detail, as I wanted to gauge my impression against that of others. But yeah, total agreement.

Or someone. Maybe Jah Reid? Maybe a waiver wire pickup? Morse to LG, Fulton to Center?

I'm just spitballing but Ehinger's not ready, IMO.

Sure, he could have turned his head but I didn't expect it. That type of coverage isn't his forte.

Yeah, I'm just not seeing it. And while the Chiefs have had problems with Case Keenum in the past (when he played for the Texans), good grief, their receivers are garbage.

And their play against the run was awful. Todd Gurley's a stud but Cunningham? Really?

I wouldn't go as far as terrible but I'd say mediocre. They look nothing like 2015's depleted defense or even 2014's. I'd venture to say that it's mainly due to the young guys, including Justin March, who truly looks like a JAG. I mean, if I'm looking forward to the return of Josh Mauga, who isn't terrible but isn't above average, ILB is still an issue, despite the resources thrown at the position.

Your confidence is based on your love of this football team and in no way, shape or form negates the fact that Murray, White and Nelson don't appear even close to being ready to play for a championship defense.
