Alexander Douglas Smith: 2016

We wouldn't we want to roll out another Alex Smith thread?!?!? Listen, for the Clay haters, this will probably be the thread that gets him banned. He can't help himself, right? Let's go!!!

First off, as many of you know, I have been very critical of Alexander Douglas Smith. Wasn't happy with the trade, HATED the extension, and have burned him to the ground from the beginning. So ****ing sick of the retread QB's.

So, that said Alex Smith is my Daddy. I mean, I just have to own that at this point. Here's why. He's never had continuity in a system. That guy had a new offensive coordinator just about every year until Jim Harbaugh showed up. And he flashed a little bit. That said, it sure looks like San Fran traded their best QB to us in favor of some douche that's starting some thing all over the league, while riding the bench to a guy named Blaine Gabbert.

Alex is now in his 4th year of the same system and it's showing. He's getting better. Why is he my daddy now all of a sudden though? Because he proved that he's more than just a game manager. He made some ****ing incredible throws against the Chargers last week. The back shoulder Maclin throw, the Maclin throw where Jeremy was almost killed, The Spencer Ware throws. Twice he hit him downfield (like, way more than 8 yards!), and then finally the Kelce throws.

People can give Spencer Ware a lot of credit, he is deserving of it after the monster game he had. Make no mistake about it though, Alexander Douglas Smith personally put this team on his back and willed them to victory. 1 play at a time. 1 throw at a time. He's a leader, and it reflected in the locker room after that game. They trust Alex now. They trust that he has what it takes to will them to victory in any game.

Alex isn't just a game manager anymore. He's a game changer, and a leader. This team could go 6-10 this year and I'll say the same thing. He has the ability and he's proven it. Now let's see where they go with it. I'm officially a YUGE Alex fan. What do you think? I'll take your comments off air.

Anyone else see on NFL Network when Dion Sanders called Alex an E-L-I-T-E QB.

Alex needs to do this more often. Have some trust and let your guys go try to make a play! I hope to see more of this (Cant say I expect to see it more, but hope to see more).

Me, too.

He can do it. He just doesn't try to.

Alex overthrows deep balls so the defender has no chance at it. This usually means the receiver has no chance at it, either. We finally have someone fast enough to run under some of them.

That's what most of the Smith doubters have been saying from the beginning.

They'll go on a nice streak now vs the soft part of the schedule and Smith apologists will make a lot of noise and crow, but it is fools gold.

Umm ... you can say the same about 90% of our entire team.

You can definitely say that about our coaching staff

If Alex played consistently like he has the last 2 weeks there wouldn't be many people bitching about him

Agreed. But 12 years into his career, I doubt he will all of a sudden start playing consistent football.

I would like to see him do it against a defense that isnt god awful, though.

He still missed 4 deep passes that would have gotten us into the redzone if not a touchdown. He still needs to improve.

Playcalling was better against the Saints too(sans a couple stupid sweeps etc)

Need both playcalling and Smith to continue to improve

Our secondary still a bit rough (maturing young CBs)
Pass rush non-existent (no Houston,Ford out of position imo)

We are still improving

Every QB misses a few plays every week. Bottomline...Andy needs to quit going into a shell and Harris needs to catch good passes.

I'm almost positive Andy went full on "run the ball to milk the clock" mode the entire 2nd half.

If you notice though, when Alex doesn't play to this standard, what usually can also be said?

answer: the whole team is taking turns stepping on their dicks.

The last two weeks, the OL and skill players have not been royally screwing up. Right? Can we say that about the losing weeks?

no problem..

Anyone remember that pic/sig? from years ago where Alex was taking a snap from under C... and someone put Clay's face on C Hudson? The one where it looked like Alex was bending him over for the full anal blasting?

Now THAT would be a good one to force him to use.

You know what I notice. He plays decent against really bad defenses. Not great, decent. The offense did not put up enough points to win this game. They still needed help from defensive scores. Against arguably the worst defense in the league.

Oh yeah buddy. Alex is really reaming me, you know, because the Chiefs certainly are not:

27th in passing yards
29th in TDs
21st in YPA
30th in YPC
22nd in QBR

25th in total yards
21st in rushing
20th in yards per play
27th in first downs
22nd in points
18th in the almighty POINTS PER DRIVE

Because without that defensive score, Reid would have called the exact same plays that he did in that second half? I doubt it.

Week after week people here refuse to acknowledge a trend with Reid... when he has even a modest lead half way through the third quarter, he shuts the offense down, runs down the clock, and plays field position football. Or if they acknowledge it, still refuse to concede that it directly effects most of the things they are unhappy about.

yea, Andy Reid also is more aggressive against bad defenses and he goes into a shell as soon as he gets a 2-score lead.

Andy Reid WANTS to win with defense

It's a team game and all sorts of stuff influences the outcome
