Please define "sustainable"

I guess I don't know what sustainable means anymore because I read it and hear it all the time that what we do is not sustainable?

If we win 20 out of 24 games, how is the formula of mitigating mistakes, forcing turnovers and being super efficient in red zone defense not sustainable?

We are 3-0 against the Raiders and 3-0 vs the Chargers in that stretch. We are 2-0 vs the broncos with this formula...

our losses @ Patriots, @ Texans when they had JJ watt, @ Pitt, and at home vs the Bucs. All division leaders (or tied) and playoff teams. We are built to win the division and make a playoff push with this formula...

It works.

My definition of "sustainable" means it will result in post-season wins. Do that and I won't care how.

I completely understand this, I also felt like the offense could drive and win this game had they gone for 1 point. We had to engineer 2 first downs to win this game, and if we needed a third - I was actually confident that we could get it...

Smasher's exact post is what exhausts me about the Alex/Andy haters who, in past seasons, were probably right. But this season they're just out of gas.

Guys like Smasher are arguing that we saw the REAL Chiefs last Sunday when the Falcons were between the 20s. But then the Fake Chiefs clocked in in the red zone on defense. That makes no sense.

They're arguing we saw the REAL Chiefs offense and the Fake Chiefs offense simultaneously. It's fake that Smith threw for 270, while simultaneously being real that the Chiefs offense scored only 20 points against a bad D. Or whatever.

It's just... not your year, guys. Normally you're right, Alex Smith is too limited to win and Andy is bad on Sundays. Normally you're right.

You're wrong this year.

The part of our winning formula's equation that many think isn't sustainable involves us feasting off of other team's mistakes. The Pats aren't likely to make the types of mistakes a Hoyer-led team is. Do you understand?

Are you calling Andrew Luck, Cam Newton, Dree Bree's, Carr, Matty Ice Hoyer level? We are 5-0 against that list winning 4 of those on the road.

We had a punchers chance in Fixboro last year if Knile doesn't fumble. Tamba was also INCHES from a game tying pick off a fluke deflection catch on 3rd down that sealed the game. Miracle lucky bounce right to Edelman doesn't happen and who knows...

Patriots-how can you win in NE when half of your team is hurt?
Texans-tons of mistakes
Pitt-dumpster fire
Bucs-key mistake by the QB

Those are the losses. Honestly I just want to be healthy in January for once. Get a bye and let's see what happens.

You also don't really need "sustainable" in the playoffs, you need to get hot at the right time. You can tilt the game slightly in your favor by getting a bye and home field advantage, but its ultimately a crap shoot.

All of those guys are good and capable of lighting you up but not one of them has a good defense.

The issue with the Pats is that you've got to deal with Brady and then a top 5 scoring defensive unit.

The thing I have not heard talked about much is that when needed this offense has come through. See the 4th quarter in SD and the tying drive to send the Bronco game to OT.

Now if we could just convince Andy to do that from the start of a game and keep the foot on the gas pedal I think a lot of fans would feel more comfortable about our "sustainability" in the post season.

What the Chiefs do is and will continue to be sustainable.

The argument is that their strategy is not sustainable against the best teams in the postseason.

The aspect missing from this discussion would be INJURIES.

What we know so far is.. losing your best players to injury.. not having them available to play against these playoff opponents.. makes this winning formula highly suspect. How could it not? I would imagine every team missing its best players would likely struggle against the best opponents in the postseason.

So no. The unsustainable talk is bullshit. It's just moving the goal posts a little further, while overlooking major injuries.

KC can and generally does win with their strategy. Injuries, and not often having a great plan B for how to adjust with such injuries are what hold this team back.

That and a mediocre quarterback.
