Please define "sustainable"

I guess I don't know what sustainable means anymore because I read it and hear it all the time that what we do is not sustainable?

If we win 20 out of 24 games, how is the formula of mitigating mistakes, forcing turnovers and being super efficient in red zone defense not sustainable?

We are 3-0 against the Raiders and 3-0 vs the Chargers in that stretch. We are 2-0 vs the broncos with this formula...

our losses @ Patriots, @ Texans when they had JJ watt, @ Pitt, and at home vs the Bucs. All division leaders (or tied) and playoff teams. We are built to win the division and make a playoff push with this formula...

It works.

The Chiefs also recorded 11 return TDs on the season, including a franchise-best nine on defense.

I'm talking solely about takeaways. They seem to be much more fickle.

If anyone has the time to dig up those 90s Chiefs takeaway numbers then feel free..
A league high 365 takeaways by the Chiefs in the 90's. I call that sustainable. I don't know if there was a year that they didn't lead the league in turnovers for the entire decade. It's nit luck. It's what they practice. No way a team has enough luck to lead in takeaways for a decade.

Yes, but those teams could stop the run and/or the pass. Third and long was deadly. Those defenses were feared. Not just because of a big play, but every down. They didn't give up 300 yard games. They didn't line up anyone like we are lining up across from Peters. They didn't get gashed on the ground. Big difference in the way those teams played.

And those teams went on to so much postseason success!

This formula was done better by Marty and it still didn't work.

This is the argument against all the Andy and Alex suckling.

Not when you have elite ball hawks in the secondary and stud pass rushers. Sure it's gonna deviate over a short season, but in the long haul...Uh oh

There isn't anything magical about the postseason. Plenty of teams have made runs feasting off TOs

Teams do turn the ball over in the postseason. But it is hard to imagine getting more than a couple. For KC we need turnovers deep in the opponent territory for our conservative O to get some easy points. The current trend seems to be the opposite I.e. Getting turnovers in our red zone so the offense has to drive down the field to take full advantage. That's where my skepticism is from. Where the turnover occurs seems more critical for our offense. That Denver game never goes into OT if we take full advantage of the muffed punt. Momentum would have completely swung our way had we scored.

1 takeaway because of a tipped pass
1 loss

How's that for sustainable
