What frustrates me more than anything about Smith is just when you think he has turned a corner and finally achieved that elite, clutch level of play that wins Championships, he takes one or two steps back to remind you he's still who he is. I wouldn't be surprised if that were at the core of most of the anti-Smith sentiment.

Take Big Ben's season.. he's had 5 games this yr with a QBR of 55 or less.. a few, much less. As great as Tom Brady is, he had a couple games in the 40's.. one of them against DEN. 5 games of 55 or less for Aaron Rodgers, and 5 for Drew Brees. 6 with less for Russ Wilson 3 for Flacco, but he lived all year in that upper 50's range for all but a few games Alex has 5 games below 55... He is currently ranked 14th on QBR in the league. (unless not updated yet, which would then raise him up) My point is not that he's wonderful, or having a great yr. It's that even the perceived better QBs are all pretty inconsistent. They are just numbers... stats.. but QBR is a decent one to get a feel for how much heavy lifting a QB is doing week to week.

I know PFF currently has him ranked 22nd among QB's with a grade of 76.8. The highest PFF grade he's achieved was an 84.8 in 2014 when the Chiefs went 9-7. Almost tying that was his 2011 PFF grade of 84.5 when the 49ers fell to the Giants in the NFC Championship game. |

It's probably not hanging with the top. Have to consider though, Andy's philosophy does not demand that his QB does the heavy lifting. The average in comparison is as said though.. 14th in the League. Last season, he finished 13th, though was top 6 during that second half of season stretch.
