The 49ers have lost 36 games and won 27 since the trade:

2013: 12-4
2014: 8-8
2015: 5-11
2016: 2-13

So, would you say they made the right move, considering that Alex Smith led the 2011 49ers to the NFC Championship game and was 6-2 before a concussion in 2012?

Teams **** up.

As a Chiefs fan, you should know that.

Grbac vs. Gannon ring any bells?

Developed for years before starting... on a team with established scheme, Pro Bowl WRs, back to back 1,000 yard RB.

Only SB he ever accomplished? had the 2nd best defense in the League.

Poor Aaron... what a trooper to develop well with so little.

They ****ed up by firing Harbaugh, not trading Alex. Harbaugh missed Alex so much he went to a SB without him.

If Smith was a franchise quarterback, he would have never been replaced by the likes of J.T. O'Sullivan, Shaun Hill, and Troy Smith in his prime. A franchise quarterback is the rock that the entire franchise depends on year in, year out. A quarterback who gets benched for journeymen on a regular basis is not that.

yes, teams do **** up...however, are you putting all of San Francisco's problems on the mere fact that they benched Alex? Surely, you can see 2013 is an departure from the other years on your stats and Alex was NOT there...

There were more problems with that franchise than just their QB.

As far as Grbac v. Gannon...yeah, that's the epitomy of ****ing up by a team or more to the point HC...it had nothing to do with the talent.

Alex Smith is a franchise qb and can win the big one if the team is built correctly around him just like any qb in the league.

You just don't like him is all.

who benched him? the offensive minded studs like? Mike Singletary? Mike Nolan?

.. and Smith's surgically repaired shoulder had a wire left in it that was sawing through during the JT O'Sullivan days. Smith went to IR before any such chance that year in 2008.

So how are those coaches that benched him doing? LOL.. they were idiots. Desperate idiots that were grasping for any QB that could lift up their own shit leadership. Fail.

Smith has spent plenty of time on the bench in his career too. He's never developed into anything more than a game manager.

It's funny how you scoff at Rodgers for winning a ring with an elite defense. When Alex had an elite defense in San Francisco, he couldn't win shit or even keep his job.

Yeah, Kaepernick has been awesome.

Do you really believe that he would be a "Franchise QB" if Harbaugh was still in town? He sucked in 2014 and has gone downhill since.

Teams **** up all the time.

Drew Brees was allowed to walk.

Tom Brady went in the 6th.

On and on and on.

Trading Alex Smith is proof of nothing, other than the fact that the 49ers traded away their best QB and have been going downhill since.

JFC, they started BLAINE GABBERT this year.

He was two Kyle Williams fumbles from a Super Bowl and outscored Eli Manning.

He also played lights out against the defending Super Bowl champs Saints and Drew Brees.
