Making the case for Tony Romo...

Right now, the Chiefs have just over $5 million in cap space. For 2017's league year, they are set to have around $5 million. Upon rolling over this year's cap space, they will have around $10 million before ever making a roster move.

My preferred approach to the offseason would be picking up Romo and drafting a QB early. My preference (right now) would be Pat Mahomes from Texas Tech. Here is how the Chiefs could do all of this without blowing things up.

1. Cut Alex Smith, void Nick Foles' contract. First off, Foles' void is a no-brainer. It saves over $10 million. Next, if the Chiefs do decide they want Romo, you move on from Smith. Some say they can't cut him yet, and I don't know why. Sure, it would result in $7.2 million in dead money. But it also saves $9.7 million. That alone is enough to keep Eric Berry, and the cap space total jumps to over $30 million.

Hypothetically, with $30 million the Chiefs could keep Berry, bring Romo and a draft class in, and still have room to make a few moves. But lets say they get greedy...

2. Cut Jamaal Charles. This one, I do not want to see. I think we could work out a large pay cut before hand and keep a potential good running back. But, if not, this adds another $7 million. They now sit at $37 million in cap room to do what they want.

So basically what I am telling you is that if the guys at OTC know their shit, the Chiefs could replace Alex and Foles with Romo and a draft pick for a smaller price. They also would have the available money to keep Berry, and even Poe if they please. Seems like a no-brainer to me, if they can pull it off.

I'd rather go 'all in' on a guy like Deshaun Watson and trade up if need be.
You spelled Deshone wrong.

Agree to disagree. I'm sure people said that about Wilson, Carr, and Prescott too.

It's a risk.

Wilson and Prescott were third and fourth round picks respectively. They're not early round picks like your OP suggests KC should focus on.

Just **** no. This is so stupid. Everyone knows that this will not happen. Wish all you want but we are not going to cut Smith and trade for Romo.
Romo is injury prone and is a choker, etc. NO, just NO
Like everyone else, of course we need to draft a QB.

Dak was drafted what? 3rd or 4th round?

Why do you have to draft a Quarterback in the 1st round?
You don't have to draft one in the first, but if you want to have success that is where the best ones are found 99% of the time.
Jesus do some research on the number of QBs that have won SBs that came out of each round.

I don't think the OP ever did what the thread title says. He sort of set the table for Romo, but made little case for why Tony should be invited to the dinner party.

Romo has had a history of back problems and injuries. He is not worth the risk, money, or draft picks. Plus he is old.

I didn't, his statistical resume and what he did in his lone drive this year should be enough to see he still has it.

Just saying.

That's a whole different level. No one thought those guys were going to be drafted to be more than backups.

Mahomes, Watson, and a few other guys in this draft are viewed as starter caliber QBs.
