Even with rolling over $10 million (and it's most likely closer to $5 million), they're still $1 million over. If they rollover nothing, they'd be $6 million over.

They have decisions to make with Peters and Morse in 2018 and in 2019, Tyreek Hill and Dee Ford.

They're not even close to being out of cap hell.
I don't get where you are coming from brother?

According to OTC, they are projected to be 6.5 million over, if the cap increases by a projected 11 million, with DJ, Hali, and Smith all still on the roster... So, let's say the cap doesn't change a bit, they are 17.5 million over. DJ, Hali, and Smith save you that 32 million, putting them roughly 14.5 million to the good. They'll probably be close to that $25 million to the good plus any cap rollover, so probably 3-4 million give or take, giving them probably 29 million to the good. Jah Reid was just cut, which saves another 3.2 million off of next year's cap, putting them at roughly 32 million to the good. Even if the cap doesn't change (doubtful), they'd still be close to 21 million to the good. Why are the Chiefs in cap hell?

They need to extend Peters for certain, they'll need a backup QB, OLBer depth and maybe a CB. If Ford doesn't progress, they may need two OLBers and with no first round draft choice, they'll be in a pickle during the draft.

I just don't see it as rosy.

If Ford doesn't progress, his 5th yr option is guaranteed for injury only and they'll cut him to free up 8 million.

They're fine next year.

But they'll need to replace him, which will probably cost more.

$10 million seems to be the going rate for 10 sack guys that are UFA's.

Perhaps. But that's still only adding $2 million to the salary structure. There's room for that.

I just think there needs to be a fair amount of doom and gloom for the chiefs to really get in cap trouble. For instance, let's say that Ford isn't bad but rather blows an ACL in week 16. That's the nightmare scenario. Now his injury guarantee triggers but you still have to replace him. So you need that $10 million FA but don't free up the $8 million to pay him. So you backload a deal with a high bonus and end up robbing Peter in '18 to pay Paul in '19 when the backload kick in and you're now tight on the cap trying to find a plan for Peters.

I mean there are scenarios that could **** us, sure. But it takes a pretty dour outlook to get there.
