You don't think there were a number of teams that backed out primarily because they knew he'd never sign a long term deal? No team is going to give a quality picks for a 1-2 year rental who comes with baggage. Undoubtedly some teams didn't want to take the risk on the attitude. But there are plenty of other reasons to back out of the market. It's more than possible that the Chiefs gave peters some leverage to decide where he wanted to go.

In the last 4 days they had to put a "power" behind the applicable number.

They got a year's advance on a compensation pick for a dude that wasn't going to willingly sign with the team barring some ginormous payday by the Hunt family.

Not ideal that they put themselves into this position and it defintely hampered getting the best possible reward in a trade, but beyond that there's not a lot that can be done now.

Pretty much where I'm at.

And I'm sure there were a lot of teams that didn't want to trade for him because they knew that he wouldn't sign with him after the two years.

Even Walter from Walterfootball.com, who has historically hated on the Chiefs in the past, doesn't thing it's a horrible trade for us.

Quote:
Rams acquire CB Marcus Peters, 2018 6th-rounder from Chiefs for 2018 4th-rounder, 2019 2nd-rounder
We finally have the details of the Marcus Peters trade. The Chiefs will be getting back a fourth-round pick this April and a 2019 second-round choice. They'll also be surrendering a sixth-rounder this year in addition to Peters.

I wrote that the Chiefs were likely getting back a second-day selection of some sort, but I thought it would be this year. I'm not sure why they have to wait until 2019 to get it. Peters is a terrific cornerback, and Kansas City should've been able to obtain more for him. However, teams were aware that the Chiefs were frustrated with Peters, so that killed his value. As a result, this is all Kansas City was able to obtain for him.

The Rams obviously won this swap. Peters will provide a great boost for their secondary, which will lose Trumaine Johnson to free agency. Giving up a second-round pick in 2019 is significant, but definitely worth it. They also have to move down two rounds this April, but that's not a big deal. The Chiefs, meanwhile, look bad, but they didn't want Peters around, and they acquired two talented corners (Kendall Fuller, David Amerson) to compensate for his loss, so I think they'll be fine. I just wish they could've gotten a bit more. Still, I don't think this trade is as bad as people are making it out to be. I still consider the Chiefs one of the favorites to reach the Super Bowl out of the AFC.

Grade for Rams - A-
Grade for Chiefs - C+

Ultimately, the trade will be judged by whether or not Veach is able to acquire significant help from the 2018 4th rounder and the 2019 2nd rounder.

If he's able to grab a couple of key players or use one of those picks to acquire a key player, it'll be judged favorably.

If it results in a Javier Arenas type player, it'll be judged as a failure.

Time will tell.

Did we win every game that Peters played in? No we didn't. The best shutdown corner can only cover half the field at best. What did teams do when they played the Chiefs? They threw away from Peters. I'd much rather have a budding superstar like Mahomes than a ticking time bomb like Peters. It sucks that we had to let a talented player like Peters go but sometimes you have to face reality and do what's best for the whole team. Let's see what they do in free agency and the draft and then reevaluate our status going into the upcoming season.

As soon as Peters attacks and chokes Wade Phillips, you'll find out...

Peters was never sticking around unless it was a huge payday... You can't pay Mahommes in 3 years with a huge payday being given to someone that isn't a good leader on your team.

Only way to be if one is going to look at this rationally.

I hate losing the player, but I can also recognize that’s it’s probably the right move for both parties.

I'm still trying to find a way to be upset, but I can't. His talent might be missed, his antics won't be.

I hope he decides to reflect and fix the antics part of life. If he does, he'll be fine.

I hope the Chiefs realize that they can't suck after this, and old man Sutton better overachieve, or they're screwed.
