I bought the Samsung NU8000 55 inch to replace one of the TVs in my sons' gaming room. Edge lit LED is what it is but the 240 hz refresh rate and dedicated gaming mode made it the most appealing option to me. Got it for $719.

I have a Vizio with a similar gaming feature. It does make a HUGE difference.

Aren't both those sets 120 Hz panels with "simulated 240 setting? I looked at the Samsung 8000 back when it was close to $1300. As I recall I had to get the store to contact the rep for verification because they were told it was "rated" at 240 Hz. The rep verified it was a 120 Hz panel with a processing board to mimic 240Hz values.*

At least they only charged you $720.

I do recall that the gamer mode turned some features off or reduced their settings and dramatically improved perceived lag.

At what you paid it's a great set but they lied to you when they said it was a 240Hz panel. It was not worth the money they were asking when I looked.

I own a Panny TH-65VX300 that even with it's low 60 Hz spec does better than most 240 rated lcd panels.

Samsung, for example, refers to its KS9000 model as having "motion rate Supreme MR 240." (later called "Motion Rate") And Sony refers to its 4K TVs as offering "Motionflow XR 960," but in both cases, the panels only have a native refresh rate of 120 Hz. The rest is clever video processing.
