I would imagine that damn near everyone is "discussed" in terms of traded for or trading.

Most of it doesn't come to fruition but I would like to hear some of the crazy ideas they throw around. I bet it would be wild.

All in? 1 season at $15M (what it would cost to sign a FA would be as much or more + multiple years)

You keep talking about this risk.

What risk?

Signing a F/A is a BIGGER risk because he'll cost as much, but now you're on the hook for the length of a contract.

You can part ways with Ford after a season. You're not parting ways with Flowers or any other freshly signed FA.

YOU'RE the one who's being risky.

For one season. With no historical evidence to show that he can repeat it. No, Flowers' 7 sacks don't compare to Ford's 13. But Flowers' 7 sacks the year before compares more than favorably against Ford's ZERO.

Again, it isn't slight. You're looking at AAV. Flowers isn't going to have a $14M cap hit in 2019.

Count me in on this train. Cut Berry and let Houston walk. If you can get a 2nd for Ford - sayonara!

Sorry, that's just where I'm at right now. Maybe it's because it's early March and it's still bleeping below zero here!
The lack of info and action on Berry has everyone wondering what the **** is up. No one in their right mind would trade for him so the decision is down to keeping or cutting him.

The decision is to overpay for a one dimensional pass rusher or to let Ford go knowing we can't find a pass rusher of his level to replace him. It's really a lose/lose situation...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Well it's the Dee Ford thread....i mean...

We have different approaches. You think $13M+/ 3-5yrs for 7.5 sack Trey Flowers is less risky than 13 sack Dee Ford for 1yr $15M

I don't see how, but ok.

I don't think Berry gets cut unless Thomas or Collins get signed. Houston is a goner.

I think this is exactly how the team wants to move forward.

We have a 1st, two 2nd's, and could package picks to move up and have a third 2nd round pick.

That would greatly help a team rebuild a defense if there are no huge **** ups in drafting...

Because you're only looking at 2018.

I'm looking at $13M over 3-5 years with a much lesser 2019 cap hit for a guy that has had 7 sacks every year he's been in the league, no more no less.

You see Dee Ford as "13 sacks" but the truth is, he has as many seasons with ZERO sacks as he does double-digit sacks. Add in his injury history and it's not about comparing him to Trey Flowers or anyone else.

I cannot trust Dee Ford as a player. I think 2018 is the statistical anomaly in his career that will never be reproduced.

I don’t see a huge dropoff in pressure on the QB swapping Ford for Flowers. Flowers had 78 last year, just six fewer than Ford’s league-leading 84.

So... to sum...

Flowers is younger, healthier, cheaper, more complete, and produced 93 percent as much pressure last year as Ford.

Dee Ford is a risk, i understand that. His production is not debateable. His health is.

That's it. The only "IF" for Dee Ford is IF he can stay healthy.

I'd rather gamble for a year and take a chance at excellence than saddle myself with medicority for the next 3+ years. If Ford doesn't work out, we wash our hands. If Flowers doesn't work out? Tough shit, deal with it.

And contract talk is moot because we have no idea what Flowers will get. There's a very real chance he gets more than what you're projecting.

Nope. But Brendan Daly is.

Pressures are pressures. You don’t pile up that many just off of scheme. And Flowers was the best guy on the Patriots DL, so it isn’t like he was just benefiting from attention elsewhere.

So Bill is just gonna let him walk? If he's that good and important but Bill is letting him walk, that's not a red flag?
