There is an established difference between reporting verifiable facts (as known at the time) and utilizing innuendo, insinuation, and implication in order to foster interest (read; views, clicks, subs, etc.) in a particular story and generate revenue from it. A ton of information is available on this subject if you're interested ... including a very significant amount of case law. Make no mistake; salaciousness sells and editors know it. In this specific situation, the KC media has either used ominous headlines (and tweetage), conflation with past horrors committed by other Chiefs, and suggestive, titillating story leads to serve their interest. Or, they've packaged their sordid imputations in the form of pompous and sanctimonious "editorial opinion". Then we have the sports radio jockeys who have really set a high bar. Come on, man. FAX |
