I can't tell you how much this upsets me and has sent me into a rather deep depression. Seemingly out of nowhere.

In all seriousness, loss is the worst part of life...hands down. There’s no debating that.

I lost my grandfather 2 years ago to ALS. He was my father figure, confidant, role model, and the best man I ever knew.

To know someone so close to you is about to go is both a blessing and a curse.

The curse is that you have to watch it happen.

The blessing is that you get to say everything you want to say - so do that if you haven’t. Tell stories. Try to laugh. Remember the good times. Tell this person how they made you feel, what they mean to you.

We’re all here a short time. To have lived a life that meant so much to someone that they’d go post on a site full of strangers that it’s ailing them says something about what this person means to you.

TL;DR: this sucks no matter what. But cheer yourself up in the memory of the person who means so much to you.

A life shared in joy and love is a life well-lived.

When I saw your thread, it just crossed my mind that you might be coming for me with a Louisville Slugger or something.

Since that's not the case, please allow me to offer my condolences. Like most of us, I've lost a great many dear friends (I try not to think about it too much, actually) so I can relate to the trauma.

Life must go on, however, Mr. eDave. IMHO, the very best thing you can do for your friend (and yourself) is to make him or her proud of your relationship regardless of which side of the Aether he or she is residing at the moment.

Dave, I started typing this 4 or 5 times but I figured nothing I had to say is going to make you feel any better right now. There ain't nothing wrong with feeling that hurt right now, it's the worst thing there is when you lose someone close. Just know that it will pass and your friend would want it to. You'll feel better eventually, memories of your friend will put a smile on your face instead of what you're feeling now. And those memories will last a lifetime. Just make sure you tell your friend what they meant to you while you can.

That's all I got man, wish I had more for you.

This one time in prison my buddy J**** was really excited about going on work release so he could bring back bullets of tobacco and make tons of money. Keep in mind these things are rightly suranwrapped and the size of an empty toilet paper roll. So the first day I see him come in and he looks so sad. I ask him what happened and he said it just would not go up there. It was a hot July day and they had been mowing, and he thought maybe he was too tired for his butthole to open up properly. Anyways, eventually he got it figured out and could bring back three a day, which is pathetic considering some dudes got five or six.
