I always remember Venture having this weird old people smell. Same with Woolworth’s in Blue Ridge Mall.

Venture was the beginning of the model that Target is today. They had many stores in KC and St. Louis and other places in the midwest. They either went bankrupt or got bought out. They were like K-Mart only had better stuff. There was one at I-70 and Noland in Independence that became a K-Mart when K-Mart moved from US 40 and Noland. Now there's a big Hy=Vee where K-Mart used to be, and the old Venture store location is currently vacant.

I just remember going as kid when we came to Kansas City because mom would take us to Show Biz/Chuck E Cheese because it was right next door on Noland Road.

General Lee’s bar and the Hawthorne Restaurant was across the street. How far is it from the intersection of Little Blue Road and V highway to the Wendy’s on Noland Road?

The failure of Venture always struck me as weird, because they didn't really slowly fade away or turn into shit holes like other failing department stores.

It's like they saw WalMart coming and decided to cash out. Kmart stayed and fought to diminishing returns for decades.

Lots of other places start promising, slowly get shabbier and shittier, then they have endless closeout sales, then they shut their doors. Seemed more like Venture was going fine one day, then were just gone.

We rode bikes to Venture a lot. Across a pretty busy road as well. It’s really crazy what we use to be able to do.

I often wonder how our perceptions of places change over time and what we would think about that same place years ago with our current perceptions. A place like JCPenney’s for example. As a kid it always seemed like this fancy place with very little anything of interest to me due to it being the sort of place you are on your best behavior and not kid friendly.

Now, I have nothing against that store and it’s fine, but looking at it now, it’s definitely not exactly a really nice place as in general it’s sort of messy and chaotic. I wonder if it was always that way and I didn’t realize it or if it has just sort of reduced in quality over time.

Speaking of stores going out of business, how much longer does Best Buy have? It almost always seems like a ghost town in there. They sell appliances, but it seems kind of sad and desperate because as best I can tell nobody buys them there.

They stay pretty busy around here, we've got three locations.
