Looking for suggestions: BBQ Sauce
A while back someone on CP had recommended Cowtown's Night of the Living Bar-B-Q Sauce. I wish I remembered who had said it because I'd send you a bottle of bourbon. It was suggested as the best bottled BBQ sauce and I agree. I usually make my own sauces, but this really was fantastic.
I had been getting it on amazon, but they want $16 for 2 bottles and I found it on here, https://www.thekansascitybbqstore.com, for half the price. (And they have free shipping until midnight tonight.) Before I pull the trigger on an order, is there anything else on there that you'd recommend trying? I could use some suggestions for stocking stuffers or general gifts. ![]() |

Free shipping deal is pretty nice. I’d been wanting to try Night of the Living for a while and also put some of the Firebug in the order.

The Gates Hot sauce is pretty damn spicy. Almost too much. I like to cut it 50/50 with their regular sauce. Makes it a bit more manageable.
Bryant's original sauce is a love or hate thing. No other sauce is like it. Its tart and had a ton of vinegar and paprika in it. I think its fabulous on brisket, but not on other things. They make a sweet sauce which is more like other traditional KC sauces that is excellent on chicken and turkey. it's one of my favorite sauces, and makes a great dip for chicken strips. |

They still make it?! I talked to the inventor of it a few years back and he said they sold the recipe to someone else and they didn’t make it anymore. Are you saying that I can purchase Firebug Hot here and now in Dec 2019!!?? UPDATE: went to the link in the op and ordered a bunch of firebug hot. Hope it’s the same as the old stuff. Thanks CP! If you're looking for a good sweet sauce, try Blues Hog. It's a sugary and sticky sauce that works great on some things. Too sweet for an everyday sauce. But really good on chicken/pork if that's what you're going for.

When I was young Dad would take me and my brother to old Municipal to take in a ball game. We would stop at the original Brooklyn location. I always was in wonderment at the carboys setting on the window sill inside that old greasy curtain fermenting in the sun I guess. The sill would be covered with dead blowflys with others buzzing between curtain and window. I would order the beef sandwich and the fellow would reach in with gloveless hand grab a big fistfull of meat and slap it on top the wonderbread. Id go back to table and tell Dad that he didnt use the tongs. Dad would give me the look and say if you knew what was happening in the kitchen behind closed doors you would run out the joint. The he would wink and say Arthur lets you see right out in the open he has nothing to hide, shut your trap eat and enjoy.

Bob Gibson's white sauce is on there.
It's actually pretty easy to make it yourself and it's not for everyone, but it's damn unique and REALLY good on smoked chicken. If y'all are putting in an order anyway, I'd suggest you give it a try. You might hate it, but you might also find 50 different uses for it. Worth spending a few bucks on.

Maurice's Southern Gold is probably the best store-bought mustard sauce I've ever had. Again, not for everyone but if you like mustard sauce (and don't want to try to make your own), I'd recommend giving that a shot as well. Sadly, they don't appear to have the spicy version on the website, but if you haven't had it before, I'd still give it a shot and maybe doctor it up with a hot sauce of your choosing if you feel inclined.

Willingham's Hot Stuff is on there as well - good rub but not as good as their WHAM Cajun seasoning (which I friggen swear by).
Bone Suckin' Sauce is one that I've tried that's also unlike most other stuff I've worked with; as you can imagine I prefer the hot stuff. Hard to explain it but they call themselves "North Carolina Style" I guess. I'd say if you hate Bryants sauce (as many seem to), steer clear of it. It has a bit of a smokey vinegar flavor to it that I sometimes really like.

I kinda thought 100% pain was lousy, but I don't really like most habanero based stuff. That smoke flavor on Habaneros is just off-putting to me. Gimme ghost pepper 100 times out of 100; flavor is so much better and the balance is as well, IMO. There's some good sweetness in there as opposed to the a sort of fetid smoke.

THEY HAVE GALLON BOTTLES OF TIGER SAUCE!!!!!
I've mentioned that stuff around here as a mid-smoke glaze that I like to add to ribs to help the bark or as a marinade for sirloin (that I'll then cube and wrap in bacon before grilling). It's outstanding and if I can't find it, I can't find a replacement for it either. I've tried to find replacements for it at times but just haven't been able to. So if I can't find it, I scrap whatever plans I had for it outright. I dunno if anyone needs to buy a gallon of it and the price they have it for on there is about grocery store prices (and Hyvee usually has the small bottles), but if you have $30 to burn and wanna take my word for it, give it a go.
