The issue is he's just not sturdy or reliably healthy.

I'm honestly shocked he survived an entire training camp and took actual carries in preseason and didn't at the very least tweak something.

On a seam up the midldle with no safeties in his way? Yeah, Jet is faster. Vision, jukes, power I give to CEH. They compliment eachother.

I'm gonna give it a little time behind this new line, but I'm starting starting to get some Knile Davis vibes from him.

Dude just doesn't seem to be identifying running lanes all that well. But the sample sizes are pretty small still so it's hard to draw any conclusions based on a handful of pre-season carries.

But McKinnon, Gore and even Thompson looked to be doing a better job of identifying and knifing through holes that CEH didn't seem to be seeing.

Purely as a rusher, there's a non-zero chance that Clyde's just...adequate.

This is a long winded ( not surprising) take that I have been dancing around lately.

There's been a couple plays where I see him and it ends in a nice gain, but I just sit thinking "man that was blocked up great, he should have gotten more out of that".

He's been fine and I think he's a nice solid RB, but with what they invested in him, I kinda thought it would be different.

Thus far the Brian Westrbook comparisons aren't very close.

I don't know if I'd say better...but if CEH doesn't improve in regards to his vision and being able to identify/anticipate holes and get through them, I could see a scenario where we use McKinnon more later in the year. Imagine his speed coming through these canyon sized holes the #1 line has been making so far.

Kinda my thoughts.

There's been a few times this preseason where it appears there's a hole and he just doesn't quite get to it.

Did he suck in college? Did our wr/RB coach teach him not to follow the designed gaps. Dick PMII **** up telling Veach he wanted Clyde?

These are questions to be determined.

Game's just an Nth faster and I'm not sure he's quite adjusted to it.

He could pause/go at LSU and pick his way forward with that exceptional agility. Now he kinda needs to go first, then see if there's a moment to pause. I just don't think he has that first read and cut in motion thing figured out.

His vision was good in college - it's part of why I thought he was a really nice fit. But everything closes up quicker at this level and I think that first step/burst needs to be based on anticipation or feel. To my eyes that isn't coming naturally to him yet. He looks to be trying to think his way through the run before he kinda vapor-locks and shoots ahead.

It's honestly the last problem I expected him to have but it's a growing concern. Wouldn't take too much to dispense with it, but we've gotta see it first.
