Thoughts the day after

Went to bed embarrassed and mad. Woke up fine.

We've lost so infrequently over the past couple years that I think we've forgotten how to do it. And how to cope with it as fans.

That defensive performance was about as pathetic as I can ever remember. Literally no saving grace on that front. And that's concerning. But we can acknowledge that these two matchups were particularly bad for this team and we've seen Spags' defenses look lost in the past only to make adjustments and find a way to improve to semi-respectable.

The reality is we played a NUMBER of close games like this last year and each and every time the ball bounced our way. Now, a lot of that is because we have Mahomes who has papered over endless deficiencies for the last few years, but even as a recently as last week, if Chubb doesn't fumble, do we win that game? What is the narrative like then?

Clyde looks bad. Like, even below the status of a normal JAG running back. But I don't think you can fault Andy for running the ball in that situation. It's not like the guy has a LeSean McCoy recent history of fumbling for you (or at all). It happened. It sucks.

Anyway, guys, this is no different from prior seasons. We can beat any team. We have Mahomes and 99% of the time Clyde isn't fumbling there, Butker kicks a FG, we end up winning the game, and we're all doing cartwheels and looking forward to the Chargers. It didn't happen here, but that doesn't make us materially worse as a football team.

This team ex-Mahomes has been soft. Hopefully this toughens us up. We'll be fine.

This was actually a pretty masterful job by Reid...He had them in position to win the game AND keep them under the -3.5 spread...38-36. CEH just fumbled...

I guess I just DGAF about what down it is.

You've picked up those three yards (and more) all night with Kelce. You haven't run the ball worth a shit all night.

Play to your strengths.

Glass half full here. If we had passed on that play, And it was intercepted, we’d all be screaming at Andy for not running that ball in that situation

Also, all the receiving options that stepped up when they completely took Hill out of the game by doubling him every play. That was nice to see.

But the defense, glass full of antifreeze

A couple times we called a vanilla run play on first down that went for negative yardage and put us in 2nd and long.

Every play where we bang Clyde into the back of the line is a wasted down.

Don't fumble.

Why do we have to concede a play (that’s what run up the middle was) to get them to use a timeout? If we get a first down on second or third down it’s the exact same result regardless if a second down pass goes incomplete. Time was not a factor at all.

It is when you can't run the ball. The Ravens had 7 guys up on the LOS for that 2nd down play. Everyone knew we were running the ball. Even if CEH doesn't fumble , it's a 1-2 yard loss. Cool, not it's 3rd and 4. Are we passing on that down to try and get the kick inside the 50?

The decision to run there is fine.

What's not fine is our starting RB is abysmal, our front four generate no pass rush, and our defense is historically bad against the run.

Thoughts?
- I wonder what Tampa Bay fans were saying last November...
- Also, I wonder what it would be like if the Chiefs drafted Barmore instead of trading for Brown...

I don't know who Barmore is, so Idk.

Google tells me he's a DT who has 3 tackles on the season.

This tells me we'd have a gaping hole at LT another fat body on the d-line that likely would have had 0 impact on stopping Lamar Jackson.

Here's something I didn't realize until I read it today. The Chiefs have the youngest starting lineup in the NFL. I never would have guessed that. It makes sense with all of the recent changes we've made on the oline and defense. But, it takes youth a little while to figure things out.

The glass half full look is what will this team look like when all those young guys start playing to their potential? I'd much rather be the Chiefs with this young team than the Bucs (oldest team in NFL).

Other than Chris Jones, when was the time the Chiefs drafted an above average DE or DT? Why does that seem so hard for us, and so easy for teams like the Ravens?
