At the doctor's office

First of all, I hate this shit. All my life.

But I really don't like it today.

Been feeling pretty run down, tired, thinking it's lifestyle and I just need to rest more.

Well...I get blood drawn and they're talking about liver enzymes and shit, so I stopped drinking. And changed my eating. This is like a week ago.

So, I've notived...I'm inflamed on my left side. It hurts. Like...inside.

Reflexology chick could feel it in my foot.

Doctor calls and wants me to come in, do my bloodwork again...

I realize that sore throat I've had suddenly isn't a sore throat at all...it's swollen lymph nodes.

This sucks.

This sucks bad.

At least if it's my liver they can just cut a piece out.

I mean, even best-case scenario, I can't envision myself ever getting to where I was drinking how I had been over the past year or so - I've historically only been a "have a couple during dinner, and only a few more through the night" kind of drinker. i have had many a night where I "tied one on" real proper, but honestly not any more than anyone else who likes to have a drink now and again but isn't an alcoholic.

The change was needed, sorely. So, if this is what it takes to get me to live the way I'm supposed to anyway...

Yeah, so my lymphocyte count is waaaaaay high...and good cholesterol is too low.

And my liver enzymes are like twice what they're supposed to be.

Hell, almost everyone's good cholesterol is too low

Which liver enzymes are still high? ALT or AST?

Yeesh. If it was just ALT, I wouldn't be so concerned, as ALT is typically driven by a short term event. But the AST signifies long term damage, and the ALT is telling you that something is still currently happening. I hope they get you figured out.

Would you be willing to post the values? I would understand if you don’t.

Some times we see transient increases in liver enzymes. Can happen with viral infections which could explain your lymphocytes.

I suspect they ordered a liver ultrasound and are checking you for viral hepatitis?

Two times the upper limit of normal is not that high. Non alcoholic fatty liver disease is a very common cause of this.

What about Tylenol usage?

Also, I have never seen AST vs ALT to differentiate a long term vs short term issue. The ratios are sometimes used to determine or indicate a cause. The amount of elevation can also give you some clues. Anything less than 10x the upper limit of normal is considered mild to moderate. AST is also found outside the liver, whereas ALT is primarily in the liver.
