Trade Deadline

With their now being that extra WC spot and everyone being bunched up, there's gonna be alot of executives deluding themselves into thinking they have a shot.

Even with that said, I've never understood why more teams don't sell. Take the Raiders for instance and Josh Jacobs. He's clearly going elsewhere this offseason, so they probably think they could get a 3rd round comp pick. If the Saints beat them this weekend, why wouldn't you try to move him?

The Saints should trade anything that's not bolted down at this point, but I digress.

I know teams don't like to shit on their fanbase and sell because of tickets and blah blah blah.

Why dont' more teams sell though?

I’d be willing to bet the 2 sides have talked about an extension and are on different planets.

The fact Nate said KC will still be in on OBJ is another sign that Mecole could potentially be moved.
If for some very strange reason a good player for player swap surfaced and we could move Hardman for a different position that can immediately help, maybe we'd consider it.

But no, there is no chance at all we're moving him for picks. And he has very little value to rebuilding teams. So you need to be looking at teams with needs at the position who consider themselves a playoff team at the very least. They'd have to have depth at a position we need as well since they're not going to rob from their current roster in a playoff push.

Ah hell, call up the Packers. Hardman for Josh Nijman. I think Zach Tom could play RT for them and Nijman is a pending RFA in his own right.

That's the only kind of trade that might get any traction at all.

The other 31 teams ain't just bit players in the Chiefs story.

I think it has more to do with the Chiefs wanting to win...surrounding Mahomes with a ton of weapons makes the team basically unstoppable.

But I'm not doing that AND giving up a shitload of draft capital for him. I think we know what he is at this point. He's a very good player but nothing that is going to dominate games.

It's funny, but it seems CP is the only place where we have a reverse endowment effect. Look through the Chris Jones thread when folks were worried about not getting him extended. There were people saying they'd take a 2nd for him. I think I was willing to move him for both of the Colts 2nd rounders, IIRC.

Chris Jones is a much much MUCH better player than Allen or Burns or pretty much anyone other than Donald, Garrett and possibly Parsons.

And we have wanting to give up more for Allen or Burns than many were willing to accept for Jones.

It's odd - it's the inverse of most anything I've ever seen when it comes to trade talks.
I would rather us take the route of trading up for a pass rusher/tackle. A Kwity Paye or Jayson Oweh would be good bc a Von Miller isn’t hitting FA.

Since that’s the case, get your vet for cheap and have him rotate. Always guys like Houston, Hughes, Dunlap etc available.

At least trading up through the draft doesn’t involve us spending massive money

DJ and I talked about this somehwere here, but if you're going to the draft...just sit tight and take the pass rushers as they come to you.

Trading up for one is just risky business because the elite dudes ain't making it past 5 or 6 and the others that go in the first are just so hit and miss.

At some point they just need to invest more in the spot but I'd guess that's coming sooner than later.

You're basically hoping you get lucky, at 32 you can end up with LJ Collier or Harold Landry, it's a crap shoot.

Well, yeah. But that's the NFL draft.

I'm pro trading the end of the first round picks for established dudes, especially at pass rusher, but I've taken alot of bullets for that.

The Chiefs are going to have less holes going into the offseason than they have in quite some time.

They will be able to focus hard on DL and OT.

That will certainly help.

I agree.

IMO, that's why I'd be more likely or more ok with moving a higher pick for a player, but I also understand sitting tight and trying to stack the roster.

The Chiefs are doing about as well as you can do as far as winning while rebuilding, tons of young players contributing.

Kwity Paye
Greg Rousseau
Jayson Oweh
Montez Sweat

There’s also good speed guys in rd 2 in recent years like Harold Landry, Lorenzo Carter and Sam Williams.

None of those guys were top 20 picks

Outside of Landry, I'd say those are all complimentary rushers, which is fine. But I dont' think any of those guys are cornerstone type guys yet.

In todays NFL if you have a bunch of different weapons you make life extremely hard for defenses.

If you sign Odell Beckham how are you defending the Chiefs?

We tried to get a cornerstone guy and it failed miserably. Maybe building a strong rotation is a better idea?
