Trade Deadline

With their now being that extra WC spot and everyone being bunched up, there's gonna be alot of executives deluding themselves into thinking they have a shot.

Even with that said, I've never understood why more teams don't sell. Take the Raiders for instance and Josh Jacobs. He's clearly going elsewhere this offseason, so they probably think they could get a 3rd round comp pick. If the Saints beat them this weekend, why wouldn't you try to move him?

The Saints should trade anything that's not bolted down at this point, but I digress.

I know teams don't like to shit on their fanbase and sell because of tickets and blah blah blah.

Why dont' more teams sell though?

If there was a move we missed it was Z’Darius Smith. He’s got 8.5 sacks in only 7 games.

Of course Tyreek was still an issue at the time and I was not on board bc the guy was coming off back surgery.

But damn. He’s been incredible this year

Most teams have to believe that you don't need an elite QB to get to and win a SB. There just aren't enough elite QBs to go around, so you have to have a plan B. See SF for a working model. Made it to the SB with Jimmy G., game manager., a great running game, a great defense, and two or three great/elite receivers.

MIN has been trying to imitate that model for years with Cousins.

Cousins reminds me a bit of Drew Bledsoe. A very 'traditional' passer who's better than most but has his flaws. He's a little overpaid, but he takes so many public bullets that he's also probably a little underrated.

I mean, I'd take him over Dak, for instance. I'd take him over Kyler. It's hard to say what Watson even is these days, but I think I'd take him over Watson. Probably over Stafford. I'd likely take him over Lamar if for no other reason than I wouldn't have to tear my team apart to build around him. Definitely over Russ. I'd take him over Carr and even Brady (who's just completely checked out and lost).

I mean shit, fellas, how many QBs right now are clearly better than Cousins? PM, Allen, presumably Rodgers, Herbert, Burrow....uhhhhhhhh

With the way things are trending, there's a non-zero chance that he and Hurts are QB1 and 2 in the NFC playoffs, depending on your stylistic preferences.

I mean you could make a solid, though unspectacular, argument that Cousins is a top 5 QB right now if you think Rodgers is done and Hurts is fools gold.

You could also argue he's not in the top 12.

It's just really Bledsoey.

But Kirk Cousins, unlike Jimmy G, is a really good pure passer.

He doesn't improvise well; doesn't work well off script. He's not very good under pressure because he just doesn't have that loose arm that Mahomes has that allows him to do weird shit on purpose.

But really, since about 2016, he's been one of the better pure throwers of the football in the game.

Here - I think this demonstrates it pretty well:

Cousins, when he's on time and on schedule, is really good. He's up there with the best of the best.

But he's a damn mess when things go sideways on him. He's Daniel Jones bad when he's under pressure.

Again - just a LOT like Bledsoe. If the team gets him time and the offense has a good plan, he's going to execute it at an extremely high level. Better than all but a very select few.

But if you pressure him, he doesn't have the mobility to create space/time for himself and despite playing for a really long time at this point, doesn't seem to have that innate feel for where to go if/when things break down. It's surprising - you'd think he'd have gotten that clock dialed in by now. I mean Joe Montana could barely move but he knew where everyone was at all times.

You'd think Cousins could have improved there with as many starts as he's had in the league.

RunKC isn't the only one.

I was pounding the table for Smith and many were against it because of the back injury.
