Let's talk about the Bengals

A sneaky big game in the AFC, and probably our toughest game left before playoff time.

Talk about it here

They really don't have any real reason to believe otherwise.

Hell, we pretty much believe that their defense/offense is the same as last year's. I was going to post my customary longish schpiel about how the Chiefs wre going to beat CIN by doing this, this, and this blah blah blah. Then I thought maybe I should check more than their statlines. Shockingly, they aren't exactly the same team from last season. So it's back to the drawing board for a bit.

I had made a post somewhere else, but our Dline is better than last year (considering how Jones is playing as well as Danna and Dunlap). Our LBs are much better than last year. Our secondary is better than last year. It’s pretty amazing that we can say something like that, but the addition by subtraction has improved this defense as KC was able to get rid of a lot of dead weight.

Agreed.

From top to bottom our D is better. They may not have the aggregate experience, but they're faster, younger, more athletic (particularly at LB and CB) and i believe they're smarter overall. They're still going to make some mistakes, because of their relative youth/inexperience, but they'll make up for it through their other attributes.

Bottom line, I don't think CIN can attack our defense the way they did the last two times with the same kinds of success. I think they'll be in for a disappointing shock if they try to play KC the way they did last time.

I should say here though, that their fanbase isn't coaching the Bengals or in any way are they responsible for how CIN gameplans against KC. So I doubt that Zac Taylor and co. are reading the Bengals message forum for ideas on how to play the Chiefs.

Zac Taylor is a dipshit thar doesn't adjust his offense for players strengths and weaknesses. He routinely puts them in holes with that approach and needs his stars to be heroes to overcome it.

If true, then perhaps it's to our advantage if he isn't reading the Bengals message boards!

I don't know which is their new rookie CB, but thanks.

The CLE game was four games ago, but it's telling that Jacoby Brissett threw for nearly 300 yards and a TD vs. their defense. And he didn't have Njoku apparently in that game. A. Cooper went off, so they couldn't stop CLE WR1 at all, and they really only threw at two other guys, DPJ and K. Hunt.

Another interesting stat is that Brissett threw for 12+ yds/att. That's ridiculous.

i think they are going to get Mixon back, who is a TD machine. He rarely runs for big yards, but he seems to always get a TD or two somehow, on short yardage plays. Hopefully Saunders/Nnadi/Jones put a stop to that. Outside the 20 yard line, I expect Bolton to hold Mixon down.

Apparently they don't have much of a pass rush, or at least their fans don't believe they do.

God, I hope they're dumb enough to single up Kelce.

But really their defense doesn't sound that impressive. But then again, a lot of CPers believe our defense is trash, so maybe they have a large percentage of fans as delusional as we have here.

Their defense statistically is middle of the pack against the run and pass, but that’s despite playing against an absolute garbage group of QBs. Their pass rush is one of the worst in football by almost all statistics, also despite playing against horrible QBs.

We’ve seen Mahomes light up top tier defenses. No defense really scares me with 15 and a healthy supporting cast.

The Bengals defense is absolutely not a top tier defense by practically any metric. If anything their defense is worse than the stats would indicate, because they’ve had it so easy all year.
