Proteins are harder to break down so they keep you full longer. It's one of the most important components of any weight loss plan. And absolutely necessary if you want to add muscle.

I take a 50g hit of protein mix in the morning. It sharpens my thoughts in the morning. I probably shit out 90% of it later, oh well.
