Do we believe his 4.46 at the pro day?

That probably puts him out of range at 32, right?

I think he was out of 31's range anyway.

But if he falls to the 20s (which, honestly, is where I have him anyway), and the Chiefs don't have Deandre Hopkins in the bag?

Prepare for some Veaching.

KCSN put out a killer report on Q:

Quote:
The big question for a large faction of fans is what, if anything, the Chiefs will do at wide receiver. The rumors around veterans like DeAndre Hopkins and Odell Beckham Jr. persist, and there doesn’t seem to be resolution anytime soon.

A little more than three weeks from the draft, it seems like there could be options for the Chiefs to address the receiver position early in the draft. There is a clear tier of players that have separated themselves from the pack and could be considered early. One of those players is TCU’s Quentin Johnston.

WR Quentin Johnston — TCU
HT: 6’3” WT: 208 LB
Temple, TX — September 6, 2001 (21)
Grade (round): 2nd

2022 Stats: 60 REC, 1,069 YDS, 6 TD, 17.8 Y/R

Background:

Johnston is a massive human that moves like a gazelle. His release package at the line of scrimmage is advanced. He does a great job of getting skinny at the snap, shrinking his strike zone while using his hands violently to keep defenders cleared from his chest. He pairs that ability with his quick twitch and flexibility in his lower half and is a real problem if you want to get physical with him. He can match most corners blow for blow.

Johnston has incredible flexibility and body control. His catch radius is massive, but at the same time shows the agility to bend at the waste and snag lower passes. A man of his size has no business winning after the catch the way he does. Johnston is hyper-aware of where the defender is at and attacks their leverage to create a target that is hard to hit. He will half-spin out of tackles at a high rate and then has the juice to put space between himself and a would-be tackler.

Johnston has the size and deep speed to be a vertical threat early in his career, but he can also snap off his vertical routes and wreak havoc underneath and in the middle of the field. He has great YAC ability, but he also understands when it is time to put his head down and turn a two yard play into a five yard play.

He has great YAC ability, but he also understands when it is time to put his head down and turn a two yard play into a five yard play.

Weaknesses:

Johnston will need to tighten up his routes and can, too often, round things off or not play with the precision that will be required of him at the NFL level. You would like to see him do a better job of extending his hands and high-pointing the ball at the catch point. He oftentimes would rather catch the ball with his body and try to elevate himself to do so, but it creates a strike zone for the defender that doesn’t need to be there for them to make a play on the football. You would like to see Johnson add another dimension of physicality to his game. Teams will love him with the ball in his hands but will be concerned about getting it there.

How he fits with the Chiefs:

Johnston just might be what the doctor ordered to make an already potent offense a downright historical one. He has the skill set that they are missing on that offense. He has the size to be a true alpha outside receiver — something Kansas City hasn’t really had in years. He may need to be schemed open early in his career to get the ball in his hands. There is no one better at that than Andy Reid.

Player comp: DeAndre Hopkins

Team Fit: High

My issue is that while yes, he is big, he doesn't really play like that. I dunno, I would be good with the pick, but there are other WR's I like alot more.

I think Mims is a sneaky good WR prospect as well.

Honestly....I think he's my favorite prospect here in this draft. Not necessarily the best, but a guy that goes in the 2nd round and just kicks ass.

I think he is a guy who can do a lot of Y and deep threat stuff. Great hands, smart receiver.

Just seems like a WR2 who can create separation and punish zones, and occasionally beat you deep. I really like him a lot.

He's the type of WR I think the Chiefs need to just keep stocking the position with. Eventually, one of them turns into a high end guy but even if they don't, with Mahomes and Andy, I think you can multiply any of them by 1.5.

So a legit #2 guy is going to put up borderline #1 stats simply because of the situation.

I remember what the Giants did during that Spags run -- they kept investing premium picks in DL and they'd take a 2nd round WR almost every year.

Eventually Eli's throwing to a WR unit with no weaknesses and Spags is hacking football with the best NASCAR package the league's ever seen.

I have always liked that approach. I understand the Chiefs want a marquee WR but last year was so instructive to me. We beat the Jags with Toney, the Bengals with MVS, and the Eagles with JuJu. Miles away from the stale offense where we just hoped teams didn't double Kelce/Hill.

Yep. Although, with Eli, those Giants teams had some issues but that's not a problem here.

Just have as much talent as you can with the group as a whole. I just don't want an A+ player and a bunch of D's.

Give me as many B's as I can get and with our QB/HC we will be fine.
