While I've never had a real problem with drinking or gambling, I think those would probably be the hardest to shake because they're both legal and heavily marketed. Once I made the conscious decision to quit coke, it really wasn't that hard for me. I simply deleted all the coke idiots from my life and stopped going to the places I had done it or acquired it. The physical need part bleeds away quickly, and after that it's all in your head. It's not like you constantly see ads on TV for "Pure Colombian" or "The Champagne of Crack," or pass businesses dedicated to the sale or use of coke all the time, or pass a group of people standing outside the office freebasing on your way to work. And at one point early on I tried going to a couple of NA meetings, but they didn't help me at all. Sorry, but sitting in a circle with a bunch of druggies talking about drugs just made me want to go get some drugs. And I've watched an idiot ass gambling junkie who had a non-working wife and baby drop his entire paycheck into a video poker machine at a bar, and that was completely legal. I was practically begging the guy to stop. It was like talking to a wall.

I will also say this - when I first partook in every single addictive substance I checked on the list, I was already drunk at the time. And all of the most dangerously stupid things I've done in my life involved alcohol. Is alcohol a gateway drug? Abso****inglutely. But it's not going away, and neither is gambling.

Gambling has a multi-billion dollar safety net to fall back on. Part of the agreement to legalize gambling here was to setup crisis centers to help gambling addicts. In fact, the support costs for gambling are so high, the state rarely makes money between all the tax abatements and casino incentives and the support costs for addicts and the like.

Weird that no coke dealer has ever shot a commercial and aired it during the Super Bowl or some other event where lots of people watching are doing blow.

I bet the first one to do it makes some serious bank.

One of you coke dealers should look into this and give me and Frazod royalties for coming up with the idea.

So those polar bears building a snowman during the Super Bowl had no double meaning whatsoever?

I knew there was something weird about that commercial, but I couldn't put my finger on exactly what it was.

All I knew at the time was that it made my jaw start grinding and my bowels move.

I wonder if that has anything to do with the medicalization of weed and weed byproducts. I scratched my retina one time and they put a drop of liquid cocaine in there and the pain was gone in an instant. It was an amazing shift from horrible pain to... nothing.

9 years doing this weed thing and Im constantly amazed at how much this state does cocaine. Im convinced it's because we have 300 days of sunshine and the Rocky Mountains.

Huge swaths of the population are rich guys who do coke but don't smoke pot. Just so they can keep drinking.

It's so weird. But whatever.
