I'm opposed to having to sign up for multiple monthly services. Especially when I watch absolutely zero outside of sports as it is. I'm not looking for great new shows. But I waited and watched the re broadcast on NFL network. I'm among the tiny minority that can actually go a few hours without getting a spoiler. So I guess as long as the NFL continues licensing NFL network to YouTube TV and showing any "exclusively" streamed games on NFLN within a few hours... I'm fine.

Having said that, it was 20 percent of the people who would normally have watched. That's a large group of people. .

It's pretty damn irritating that I can't watch a replay of the game. It's a basic function of tv/cable/satellite/streaming service to have a record or replay function. I was at my kid's event and watched on my phone when I could, but would like to see the whole game.

Um, OK, which one of these is better?
In Kansas City, the broadcast on KSHB (Channel 41) game drew a 45.1 rating and 74 share. OR… The broadcast on Peacock averaged 23 million viewers, according to Nielsen. |

Principles man.
It had 3 million more people pay money to watch than last years Saturday nights WC game on broadcast TV. Shows that lack of principles in America?

Look, promoters are always going to try things to make money. NBC and the NFL wanted to see how streaming would work as opposed to broadcast TV. I don't care for it as they might discover people are willing to pay for streaming in order to view their team's games, as opposed to watching at home on the over-the-air free tv. But ultimately, I think the fans will not be that inspired to pay for streaming since most teams suck. But for the playoffs I bet they got a winner of an idea. I just wonder which one makes them more money (including advertising)?

You can might make more money in the short term and lose money in the long run.
If you squeeze the already dedicated fans, sure they will pay up. And yes the NFL currently has a lot of fans. The type fan that posts on this site is generally hard core. But there are many millions of fans that watch regularly who are far less dedicated and you always have to think about younger fans also. There are lots of options for what to do/watch,on your TV/phone. If everything seems an expensive hassle just to follow the league (especially if your local team sucks), over time not as many casual fans may end up dedicated fans. So no, fans won't disappear. But say twenty years later your fan base might be smaller than it would have been if it was easy to watch games.

Imagine going the entire season having pumped $450 into Sunday ticket then another $15/month on prime then being told after all your dedication to watching 16 full games they were going to charge you to watch the playoffs. This is like watching a movie then stopping the movie just before the final scene and telling people they have to pay to watch the ending or else get out. And just to add in… it isn’t just the nfl. It’s become unaffordable to watch many sports. Whether that’s nba tv, mlb tv, Apple TV for soccer, ballys… at what point does the overall package become so expensive that people who prefer nba stop watching the nfl? The nfl has made its bank on being the most easily accessible sport. It is really the one sport where chiefs fans will watch a panthers game simply because it is on. So this idea of restricting access is counter to everything they’ve built off of. |

Principles. I went to a bar and supported a local business screwed over by this. Peacock did not get a subscriber out of me. And I’m content with that decision.
No, i don’t believe i am one of dozens to have done this. The Taylor swift bump has led to the chiefs smashing every tv ratings record including pulling 30m to watch regular season Monday night football. The chiefs got 53m to watch the bengals chiefs last year without Taylor swift. So yeah, it’s of course the most streamed in nfl history but you can’t tell me there weren’t tens of millions who did not end up watching it. Instead 23m puts us on the low end of a typical wild card playoff game. |

20% loss in viewership at least, so you can stop sucking them off

The local KC viewership for Chiefs games is always way higher than the national viewership… even when both are on regular TV.
