I Hit A Bald Eagle With My Truck

Not something you see every day. Driving in to work and bald eagle swoops down to get some road kill. This eagle and another had been fighting with a few crows. Problem was he went to get it when I was way too close to him. He tried to fly away but there was just no way he could get away in time.

Yeah. It doesn't matter if they're basically big pigeons in Alaska. Say hi to MrBlond for us.

In all seriousness, there probably is some kind of protocol for this to make sure everything is on the up and up.

I did. Pulled over at a weigh station and I didn't touch that thing until the cops came. They called US Fish & Wildlife but got no answer. I made sure I got the report and they knew I didn't take anything - feathers, claws, organs.

Amazing you could still drive it.

Serious question...are they protected only because they are the national bird? I mean they certainly aren't endangered. They're pretty common just about everywhere with water/trees and an unlimited food source.

I should clarify I'm not suggesting they shouldn't be protected and respected, nor should people not get in trouble who intentionally murder them. I'm moreso just pointing out that I see them everywhere, whether I'm in Kansas or up North in Minnesota / Canada.
