It's a cholesterol thing. Been using grapeseed oil for the most part.

Armour lard may actually be healthier for you and doesn't carry that distinctive smell.

My cardiologist would vehemently disagree with you and I have detected no smell. But I do remember one from lard many years ago. That being said, we will just have to agree to disagree, I won't be be frying my taco shells no matter what the oil.
The La Tiera shells were only 28 calories each.

Bet your cardiologist has you on a statin too, right? I'm not suggesting you use lard - I don't. But there's a lot of misinformation out there about fats and heart diseases. It's a multi-billion dollar industry.

Furthermore, do you know fully what is in those mass produced taco shells? They could very well be "heart healthy" and still be poison. Speaking of that - you know that exposing grape seed oil to high heat, like frying, is bad right? It's edible but it's not suitable for high heat cooking.

Lots of wisdom in your post! Yeah, I have been on statins for almost 18 years now and my body is finally rejecting them due to the pain. Next week I get some kind of expensive shot that will be repeated every six months.

You are right, the cholesterol thing is an obsession with them. My latest was 140 total.

I had no idea grape seed oil was not suitable for high heat cooking. Will go back to Olive oil, thanks!

Learned a lot in this thread including "Travesty" is not a synonym for tragedy like I always thought it was.

I try. I'm no expert but I care about you (and everybody else here).

The thing about grape seed oil is it's really great uncooked, like as a salad dressing. I sometimes use it with BBQ under low heat. It just doesn't survive the high heat and can possibly be toxic.

Due to your post I googled it and there is a lot of information out there about it. It has some really good qualities but I guess the main issue is the chemical often used to harvest it having left over residue. It should say on the bottle how it was produced, but I have already discarded ours in favor of a dispenser.

Our recent trip to Sam's I picked up a new quart of Olive oil and holy crap has that ever gotten expensive.

I went low carb, eat tons of protein and fats, and my cholesterol and blood pressure went way down. I quit 3 medications.

Mostly because I quit listening to my doctor. I ate healthier. And I still hit the local pizza buffet about once a week. I'm not some diet slave.

Fat is good for you, not bad. Artificial fillers, preservatives, and processed garbage is garbage. High sugar is horrible for you. Alcohol, in large amounts, is horrible for you. You are less likely to get cancer if you smoke regularly than drink regularly and I was as big a drinker as anyone can be. I enjoyed my boos but I'm healthier now at 50 than I was at 30.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Good for you! Yeah, I'm on a BP, gout, and thyroid pill. Had to quit drinking a year ago. 1 year ago today was thrown in the hospital because of an ulcer in my colon. Ripped out a couple of feet of it.

Now, the wet behind the ears doc calls a couple of days ago talking I got the Wilfred Brimley. Starts talking medications and I'm like wait wait wait. First send me some shit about how to adjust my diet and shit before I start singing the lower A1C jingle. Jesus I swear that's all they do anymore is become pill pushers.

I've also wanted to switch primary doctors. This is a good opportunity.

Right. I only suggested lard because we are talking about frying tortillas, and lard has given me the best results for that over the years. I don't even have any in the house right now. I use olive oil.
