This isn't remotely an odd pick at this point of the draft. If they went LB other than Paul, Bassa would be the next obvious option. LB was the most obvious position after RB. Not odd at all.

You can't have a list of one position and a single other player and anything outside of that doesn't make sense.

At this point of the draft grades are all over the place.

I think given our respective RB and LB rooms, I'd disagree. We do need a coverage LB, so fair enough, but you can't tell me you weren't expecting a RB then.

To be fair - I wasn't.

I just picked a different LBer.

LBer made a TON of sense with that pick.

I mean, given their previous interest in drafting the two positions, it probably shouldn't have been a surprise to me.

Yes, but there's nothing odd about the team picking a different position than you expect, especially the next likely one. You can't nail the position 100% based on need in any round.

A QB would've been odd. IOL would've been odd.

And Oliver, Mondon and Maiguoa all went off the board in the next 6 picks.

Seems pretty apparent that Veach saw that run on LBs coming up and went and got the guy he really wanted.

DJ's point re the mini-run on LBs makes it make sense. I guess I'm just using "odd" to mean, I don't agree with the prioritisation given what was left with the RBs.

TBH though, after Giddens went I'm not sure I cared that much for guys like Martinez. So I guess see what we get at the death.

Exactly.

If Giddens is still there at that pick, maybe I'm a bit ornery about it. He wasn't.

I don't think another RB has gone since. I don't expect more than 1 or 2 to come off the board before we pick again.

There have just been a lot of 'em taken already and they're all pretty fungible at this point.
