***Official I am Old Thread***

I don’t have any teenagers, and spend roughly zero time around teenagers. There are teenagers in my family, but they are 7 hours away and I’ve watched them grow up on Facebook and via text message.

Podunk, MO where I grew up and my family lives held prom this past weekend, and I am puzzled by the men’s fashion.

Go rent a tuxedo, and have the slacks hemmed 3 inches above your shoe, wear white socks and athletic footwear. WTF?

And it’s all of them, not just my goofy great nephew who somehow landed a smoke show as his date. I feel like a pervert, but I could only dream of someone that looked like her in high school.

No, but I used to always have a bowl of them on my desk back in the late 90s and probably had one in my mouth as I sat and waited to see if the Nortel Meridian would melt down on 12/31/1999.

Yes i am a boomer....but I wear a pair of meticulously shined black dress shoes to church every Sunday...plus when I was still working I wore dress shoes when we had customers in the office.

At the company I worked for when I retired last year if you showed up in casual shoes/tennis shoes when clients were in house you wouldn't be part of the meeting.....which was not good for your career.

At a previous job that I held long ago, the owner would come into our offices once a year or so for a surprise inspection. (He worked in the offices, so I mean to say that he'd come into my private office.) He wanted your office to be neat and orderly, and he wanted you to be dressed formally. I wore suits and ties even when I didn't have any client meetings and was just sitting at a computer.

One year he marked down my grade because I was wearing dress boots with my suit. These weren't snow boots or work boots or anything gaudy. They were dress boots that could be worn with a suit. I told him that my boots were likely the most expensive footwear in the office that day, but he still docked my grade and told me not to wear them going forward when I was sitting alone in my office working on my computer. When I left and started my own company I relaxed the dress code considerably.

I was raised by a father who worked in a Big Blue shop where even the janitors were required to wear a coat and tie when entering and leaving the building.

I have a double shoe rack full of dress shoes, blacks, browns and tans that were my daily work shoes prior to retiring. The only time I have worn a pair since I retired in 2014 was to my brother in law's funeral in 2015.

In that period I have totally worn out two pair of Nike's dedicated to the treadmill and multiple pairs NB and Sketchers for daily wear.

I get it...I have 1 pair of black and one pair of brown dress shoes for church/formal affairs.....

But for the rest of the time I have 3 pair of Skechers slip on shoes....and one pair of workout shoes I wear during my rehab workouts.

In retirement comfort is the buzz word!

I got a pair of custom orthotic inserts for my shoes and my knee pain is gone when I wear them. I was skeptical but damn they work as advertised. Called Foot Levelers, only available through chiropractors who use a laser scanning machine that maps your foot profile and weight distribution. Due to a 35 years ago injury in my left foot I was carrying 600 lbs proportional weight on my right foot.
I’ve had MRIs and was told I’ll need a new knee in ten years, that pain was just gonna be my life. It’s gone when I wear them. Worth every penny of the $350 for them.
