KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - One of Kansas City’s most popular radio shows will take over the morning drive to fill a hole left by the departure of a longtime host.

Audacy’s 98.9 The Rock in Kansas City announced on Thursday, May 1, that it plans to revamp its weekday programming. The Church of Lazlo will now air weekdays from 6 to 10 a.m., while Ashley O joins KQRC-FM to host weekday afternoons between 3 and 7 p.m.

“The legacy of 98.9 The Rock is marked by the brand’s commitment to bringing rock music to the Kansas City community and having top-tier talent who connect with loyal listeners and passionate fans,” said Roxanne Marati, Senior Vice President and Market Manager, Audacy Kansas City. “This revamp is an exciting evolution for the brand.”

In August 2024, Audacy shook up the KC radio scene as it moved Church of Lazlo from what was previously 96.5 The Buzz to create The Fan. As a result, the show was moved to 98.9 The Rock.

“We’ve been on the air for 20 years, and to take over the morning drive with such a legacy is surreal,” said Lazlo. “Our fans are the reason we’re here. Nothing is off-limits, so tune in to join the conversation.”

According to Audacy, Ryan Westward will remain the midday host between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

“The Church of Lazlo” has been entertaining Kansas City for over two decades. Lazlo has an extensive background in the music industry, holding roles including Brand Manager, Band Manager and Concert Promoter.

In March, the Johnny Dare Morning Show, which previously occupied 98.9′s morning drivetime, announced that it was cut after 32 years.

love Lazlo but feel bad they are making him go to work at 6am now. I bet they checked the numbers after cancelling Dare and freaked the **** out now they are moving Lazlo into that slot to try to save some listeners.

believe they had a cooling off period as part of their separation agreement

I would expect them to resurface when that time is over

We're wondering if we can find a Johnny Dare equivalent for a 1/2 price sale?
