Why haven't we sent a spaceship filled with people to possible habitable planets??

I don't understand why this isn't or hasn't been discussed or talked about among our multiple civilizations across the globe??

My answer is because there is no profit from it, but what is your guys' theories??

I would assume there are plenty of people who would be willing to go on this journey and die in space to allow their children's children to be possible "aliens" on a new planet???

I know personally, if the spaceship was something like the movie "passengers" with a lot of vacation vibe built in with drinking, along with restaurants like a cruise ship, I may very well be interested in signing myself up if future conditions permit...

So why do you guys think this hasn't become a thing??? Wouldn't we as a planet be interested in seeing what they find, or what they find along the journey if we can develop a transmission that can sustain the journey??

If aliens are out there, actively looking for life in the universe, our entire solar system may not even be visible to them, depending on how far away they are.

Let's say that, 100 light years away, there is intelligent life looking in our direction. The light that departed earth that's just now reaching them occured 100 years ago and they'll be seeing us as we were in 1925, not 2025.

Now let's go a little further away to 70 million light years. They would be watching dinosaurs roam the earth.

If you go to 4.6 billion light years or farther, the solar system hasn't even formed yet. They would only be able to observe the clouds of dust and gas that formed our solar system. To those aliens, there's nothing here to see.

As technology develops, the five days can cover larger distances. Over a few thousand generations, we have a gigantic superhighway of space cities that we can then anchor on a second habitable planet.

There's some galactic orbital mechanics to work out since you may end up in one those crack-the-whip ice skating scenarios, but those are mere details.

While this makes perfectly sound and logical sense, this also assumes that humans have discovered and mastered all things relating to physics, gravity, and travel through space without having actually traveled through space for any meaningful distance (that we're generally aware of). I say this to keep hope alive that there is an answer out there for us that these things can be achievable for us hairless apes one day soon, lol.

I, too, pray that one day, all of the hairless, pink, suburbanites that inhabit this rock will be able to spread out amongst the stars. Of course, we haven't figured out how to cure a case of the hiccups yet so we may be doomed as a race when the sun swells up, goes red giant, and engulfs the planet.

Each space city is a slot on the conveyor belt of supplies. Every 5 years, Earth sends the supplies for a space City to the nearest space city. In 5 years that City then sends it on to the next city and receives supplies from the previous city. You just keep doing that. Maybe at some point the Space City in the asteroid belt starts packing the supplies onto asteroids and shipping them on paramaterials.

Mine the asteroid field for resources. At some point, if humans don't destroy themselves, we will need to find a world to expand to. Our technology and understanding of the universe just seem too limited at this point in our evolution.

using current technology, it would be easier to mine on Mars (or any sizeable planetary body) than it would to try and mine an asteroid. Right now, to mine or drill on Earth we need to be able to lubricate the drill bit, with water usually, which would be impossible on an airless asteroid. Also, there's the issue of no atmosphere to dissipate the heat generated by the friction of the drilling/mining. And then there's the issue of the debris that would inevitably be floating around our drill site forever because of the microgravity environment of an asteroid.

On Mars, there's water, and sufficient gravity to keep the dust down, as it were, and a large enough planetary body/atmosphere to dissipate the heat.

The gravity would also be helpful when it comes to refining, as we don't know how we'd separate the metals we want from the raw ore in a zero-gravity environment (iron, aluminum, titanium, etc).

And Mars does have some other desirable metals/minerals, such as rare earth metals, magnesium, selenium, sulfur, etc.

That’s what I was gonna say. Sound point but it’s a point made on the logic we know ourselves, not the logic others (aliens) may know or have at their disposal

Now the belief is that ion drives may be able to handle this sort of thing at a much faster speed with the infinite patience it would take for them to accelerate. They are very low thrust vehicles but without drag, it doesn't matter. They just continue to maintain that low thrust (improving efficiency) and in so doing they veeeeeeery slowly build up speed that should theoretically never sluff off. And it should just continue to build and build.

While nearer to earth, you could use a solar sail with it to pick up speed/save energy earlier in the journey but it would lose effectiveness pretty quickly. Probably not even out past the asteroid belt.

The other issue is simple reliability. We have no idea what might break. When, where, why or how to repair it. And you can't exactly call for a delivery if it's something unexpected. And the more eventualities you try to prepare for, the more storage you'll need (to say nothing of the supplies you already need to have on hand).

We're just nowhere near ready from a technology standpoint. Even if we could get that speed, you're not talking 3-4 generations. You're talking a dozen or more. And even then, the odds are still overwhelming that you're just sending people out there to die in the vacuum of space.
