I agree. The more things unravel, the more it felt like they really liked Josh Simmons at the combine and his recovery (at the time) and wanted him but paid Jaylon Moore as insurance.

I don’t think Moore is a bad player. I just don’t think he’s “the guy” at LT. I wouldn’t be surprised see him beaten out in camp by Simmons if the kid is a full go.

Was listening to Sirius XM last night with Pat Kirwan, who was high on Simmons and his example surprised me bc we all missed this guy: Ryan Clady

Tore his patella tendon playing basketball in the offseason. Was 23 years old at the time he tore it in late April of 2010. Here’s what happened after he was injured:

-Didn’t miss a game in 2010
-Played 5 more years in Denver after the injury
-Was a pro bowl tackle 3 years after injury (2011, 2012, 2014)
-1st team All-Pro 1 year after the injury (2012)

This might be the closest example bc the kid was really young when he was injured, like Simmons.

And there’s 15 years worth of new medical and treatment advances since then.

All positive vibes on this beautiful Monday morning.

That's actually great info. Makes me feel even better about the pick.

Shit, that is encouraging. I tried hard to find a player who had that type of success story and was unsuccessful, obviously.

He’s likely one of the two OL regarded as successfully returning to play level in the study we have reviewed ad nauseum.

And actually the only instance where you really can say he was just as good as before the injury.

Another thing to think about:

A lot of the talking heads thought Simmons could have been the first OT taken in this draft without the injury.

He went 31.

He's going to be REALLY motivated, I would think.

Different position, but Jimmy Graham. He tore his right patellar tendon in December 2015 with the Seahawks. He rehabbed hard and, by 2017, posted a Pro Bowl season with 10 touchdowns (tied for the NFL lead among tight ends).

I can’t believe the guy tore his patella in April and then didn’t miss a game. That’s insane. 4 month recovery without missing time.

It reminds me of Simmons looking really athletic and surprising everyone at his pro day at 5 months. That makes me feel like Simmons is gonna start this season since he will be 9 months removed from surgery when camp starts, as well as Andy calling it “more of a 6 month injury”.

Simmons mentioned Burkholder’s plan for him this summer. Wonder if that is getting his strength back. The 225 squat reported at his pro day was low obviously but I think that’s just part of the rehab to slowly building him back. I imagine they started much lower than 225 for rehab. Guessing here, but the athleticism seems fine. Would imagine his rehab is all about strengthening his quads, hammy and glutes to help take pressure off the patella and slow put more weight on it each month with a target for camp.

I just have this gut feeling that Simmons is going to be the starter at LT on opening day.

He made the pro bowl but still was NOT the same. He was just that good before the injury that even a shadow of himself was pro bowl worthy

Like I said, different positions.

I’m sure his route running took a hit. He still was able to produce.

He wasn't the same player after. And only had one more highly productive season.

His speed/agility/jumping ability all took hits after that injury.
