For me, here's the thing about baseball: Players from all eras strut around, puffing out their chests at anything they think slights them or is against the unwritten rules of the game. They claim it is all about "integrity". But, we know during the Bonds/McGwire/Sosa era that there were dozens of players on PEDs, including loads of pitchers, but only a few were caught and they have paid the price. The others? They've stayed quiet and enjoyed their massive contracts and reputations garnered from PEDS...so much for integrity. Bunch of boys parading as men.

I mean, there are plenty of scumbags in all of sports who belong in the HOF. I don’t want that to ever be a metric. Of course with the exception of serious criminals like OJ and Darren sharper. I don't think that's a particularly hard line to draw. I don't want the media to be injecting emotional opinion into a decision that should predominantly be about merit.

The thing about Pete rose is that he was a criminal asshole on top of breaking the cardinal rule in all of sports. I don't love giving him a second chance. But at the very least can people stop with the hero worship, victimization and celebration? Im not going to be outraged if he gets in but the MLB and HOF shouldn't cut a single corner calling these guys out for exactly who they are. What drives me a little more crazy is the misinformation that will swirl romanticizing both rose and shoeless Joe. They are not victims. They were banned for the right reasons.

As for Pete and shoeless Joe... If we are talking on the field accomplishments then we can talk on the field negatives. And intentionally losing games or not trying to win them is close to the absolute worst thing a player can do short of murdering someone in cold blood on the field.

It never ceases to amaze me how some people can't grasp the severity of gambling and why the sports leagues come down so harshly on it.

I watch the royals nearly every night.
