Know one of the guys on the road crew that found his bust off 77 and E30th back in 95. To hear the full story is funny said he chucked it in the backseat of the city vehicle like it was scrap metal.

Damn, thread has gotten long in a hurry. Has anyone made a lame joke about how Shoeless Joe can now stop haunting random cornfields, and Kevin Costner’s dad can finally rest in peace?

Pete Rose people, hillbilly Cincinnati bundle of sticks weirdos…. That’s your crew.

This dude willfully signed an agreement with Giamatti, basically allowing Rose’s files to remain sealed. Pete did this on his own as an adult grown man. MLB went out of their way to avoid this in the late 80’s.

How would this have helped MLB? It didn’t. MLB and the whole world had the goods on Pete Rose. Pete knew it. He had been cheating taxes for years, and finally got popped and did time. He ****ed teenagers. And if you’re naive enough to believe he just started gambling when he became manager, then I have a bridge for sale.

Hero worship is some sad shit. Of all people to defend, why do so many run up a flag for Pete Rose? Is it because you actually respect the guy? Sure, he’s funny and can be engaging about the topic of baseball, but he was always a man in a state of arrested development. He never had the emotional equivalent beyond a teenager. That’s your hero.

He had ties to the mob. He ****ed your daughters. He also had 4000 hits. Jesus…. It’s a stretch for me to think this guy is cool or deserving of anything but total derision. Dude was Cincy shit pasta his whole life until he decided it was cool to trash Giamatti and travel to Cooperstown peddling his autograph while living in Vegas.

And here’s the rub…. Manfred is the worst one who sucks the penis commissioner next to Selig, and he’s clearly just blowing darts. Pete ain’t getting elected in the next five or ten years. He might be on a new bundle of sticks list of Manfred’s, but Rose ain’t getting in while so many other HOF’ers are still alive.

Pete signed his fate, and I guarantee you he did that knowing full well how god awful ****ed up MLB had him and we will never know that stuff.

Pete Rose is a ****ing scumbag POS, I hope he never gets into the HOF, and may he rot in Hell.
To your first point, if he is going to be eligible, then unseal everything. See if his family is cool with that. It's crazy that he is that kind of rap sheet and we don't even know anything.

Again continues to be for me... Betting (or intentionally not betting) on his team is the bannable offense. The huge rap sheet outside of that just seals the deal. Or at least should've been. Agreed, I don't understand the hero worship. I think the main issue is that Pete and shoeless Joe both threw games in such an indirect way that most of the public has come to believe the cover up lie.

And that is still not the same as players and coaches engaging in gambling being deemed acceptable.

I despise how much gambling is pushed but that doesn't mean Jackson and Rose should be given a free pass.

A fan betting $20 on the outcome doesn't threaten the game's integrity. Jackson taking 5k did.

I get that leagues are promoting gambling a lot.

But isn't that more reason for zero tolerance to prove that they are doing their best to make sure players don't participate in it and that they are protecting the integrity of the game? If anything it should mean more strictness not less.

I don't really care what happens now.

They are both dead.

I absolutely do not care about one thing after I am gone. So any punishment of not putting them in the hall has already been levied.
