Yes I think the Rams would've hung onto him. I'm not sure of his contract details but I don't think it was that lucrative by QB standards. And in this dearth of QB talent, where even Tony Banks has a starting job, the Rams knew they could get something for him if they were patient. And with us, they hit the motherlode.

I doubt that Green would've been a FA till 2003. And even then I doubt his price would've been that high. If CP were smart he'd signed Beurline and Dilfer as #1 & #2, and drafted Palmer/Mcmahon this year or waited till next year with a deeper QB draft to get a QB project. But as is typical, we paid the maximum price and have staked our future on an unproven commodity.
